Yanelli Hernandez, 22, tried to commit suicide while in immigration detention. Twice.
Twice, she survived.
She was doing everything she could to prevent authorities from deporting her to Mexico, a country she never knew and a place where she has no one.
In her support, and as part of a wider movement for immigration reform, immigrant rights activists from the Inland Empire Immigrant Youth Coalition (IYC) gathered in Los Angeles this week to decry anti-immigrant sentiments and policies that they say have taken a toll on the mental and emotional health of their communities.
Did her parents "know" this country prior to choosing to live here illegally? Of course she has "no one" back in Mexico. I suppose her entire family -- grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc, are all here.
What about the "mental and emotional health" of citizen contractors, who can't support their families because they can't compete against their illegal counterparts; or, the millions of unemployed citizens who can't find work because greedy employers prefer cheap labor; or, the millions of citizens who can't pay their bills because their wages are steadily declining due to illegal immigration; or, the countless citizens whose wages have been garnished, bank accounts emptied, or liens placed on homes because illegals have "borrowed" their identities? The list goes on . . .
If they're suicidal in the USA, that means they may have too much guilt for breaking all the laws of this country and would be better off back home.
There is one very easy "cure" for the problem of being here illegally and that is a return trip home. No more illegal status once they reach the border of their own countries.
Well I went to Mexico for a couple semesters and I can vouch for the friendliness of the people there. I wasn't even 22 years old -- this woman can make friends there -- or what is she claiming about her own people back home? That they are so horrible that she could never accept living among them?
All the illegals want to do is whine, but in reality, their country is not the hell hole they claim it is.
I find it funny how a man and a woman come here without a single relative on the entire planet. I mean, that happens all the time right?
Yes, quite funny. They can come here never having been here, not knowing a soul, and not speaking our language, and somehow manage to survive quite nicely. But, heaven forbid they should have to return home to a place they "don't know."

I honestly don't think that that the words "Illegal" or "Alien" are in thier vocabulary. What would you expect from someone who thinks they have
a "right" to break the law in the first place ?
Personally, I just can't work up any tears for any illegal alien that threatens to commit suicide. Guess that makes me one off the "anti-immigrant" crowd, huh ?
Not just Mexico but Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador are in need of strong ativists to pull their countries out of the currupt sewers they have become. But in the US ativist get put in jail overnight. In Latin America they can be killed. I gues some people are just "week-end" ativists.
I am trying to understand when their parents were the ones that did the sin, why are they looking to us to rescue them. I am sorry their parents brought them here, but that is something they should take up with their parents. If they are over 18 years old and realize they have no citizenship here, they should leave. They will be going back to the country where they are citizens and probably be more educated than the other people of their age there. I would think that our country has done enough for them already.
