WASHINGTON -- New census data released Thursday affirm a clear and sustained drop in illegal immigration, ending more than a decade of increases.
The number of illegal immigrants in the U.S. dropped to an estimated 11.1 million last year from a peak of 12 million in 2007, part of an overall waning of Hispanic immigration.

The Associated Press: Illegal immigration drops after decade-long rise
Perhaps someone can explain how there can be "census data" determining the number of illegal aliens, considering the Census Bureau does NOT collect data on that particular demographic. How convenient that we should have a "clear and sustained drop" in illegal immigration at the same time the pro-amnesty campaign is in full swing.
Wait a minute. . . didn't they previously claim it dropped to 10.8 million? Wouldn't that mean illegal immigration increased rather than decreased if we now have 11.1 million? Hmmm. . . .

The number of illegal immigrants in the U.S. has dropped by nearly 1 million, renewing the debate over what to do with those still in the country, according to a Los Angeles Times report Thursday.
The Department of Homeland Security reported that illegal immigrant population dropped to 10.8 million in 2009 compared to 11.6 million in 2008. It was the second consecutive annual decline and the largest in at least three decades.

Number of Illegal Immigrants Plunges by 1M - CBS News
I guess when you pull numbers from the sky, anything goes. Next, they'll tell us we've had another 1 million drop. Or, to sweeten the deal, maybe they'll drop it by 2 million.

They guess. There is no way to really tell how many get through. We can count expired visas, we can't people sneaking through buck brush.

Huge numbers of illegals cross using border crossing cards -- their own or someone else's. No one checks to make sure they leave by the time they should leave. Since acquiring documents to cross the border is so very easy, most illegals just use the legal ports of entry and are never counted as illegals.
Until it comes time to give their their big amnesty reward.

One reason illegals are NOT returning home is that Obama has told them there's a huge amnesty right around the corner that will highly reward anyone that's living here illegally.
Even if some illegal actually thought about going home, he's not going to do it when amnesty is imminent. He will take the legal status -- and then go home, US citizenship and papers that allow one to live here and take the high paying jobs is excellent insurance. Very many Mexicans come here to give birth, not only because hospital care is free for them in the USA, but also because that US birth certificate can come in very handy at a later date, many actually return to Mexico with those US birth certificates in hand.
Obama is doing all he can to encourage all illegals to remain here. No illegal is going to go home and miss out on this prize.

Probably many from Arizona. We're still down in 2012 compared to 2006.

Illegals might be leaving Arizona but they're not going home.
Illegals who even want to go home won't do so now with Obama telling them the amnesty is right around the corner. They're going to wait because they're afraid now that the minute they step foot back in their country, the amnesty will happen and they'll miss out.

You've got that right! I was telling my mother today, I have NEVER in my life seen so many Arizona tags on cars in the DC area as now. In fact, in the past, I probably didn't see more than 2 in 5 years. Now, they're everywhere. I wonder why.
