The one number that scares me is its reference to 25 million citizens without a high school diploma. Even w/o immigration issues, that is completely unacceptable.
Education in these countries is only mandatory until 5th or 6th grade.
In Guatemala only 30% make it to 6th grade.
Mexico was also 6th grade until the mid 90's when they upped it to 9th grade.

It's not rocket science here to figure out that it is the poor and uneducated that are coming here illegally.
Even at off the books lower pay they are still making way more than if they stayed and worked in their own countries.
Many children of illegals don't make it past 10th grade themselves (legal age for dropping out of school).
The work the US did with education and striving to get everyone at least through HS is going to be set back once amnesty happens.

The OP is referring to the U.S. citizens right now without a High School diploma. It's been about twenty years ago, but I worked with an American forced by his family to drop out of 2nd grade, and that was not influenced by illegal immigragration. Without any immigration factors, what is the number here that have not graduated High School?

Without massive immigration, it would be about a third of what it is. A large number of the drop outs are anchor babies born to parents who never saw the need to stay in school. Cultural influences also work against staying in school. If they would have stayed in school back in their homeland, they wouldn't have needed to come here in the first place.
Supposedly we need all these impoverished unskilled uneducated workers coming over the border -- it's weird then when the government wants to spend more money on education when supposedly it's the uneducated workers that are needed.

For US to compete in today's global economy, we need to have more educated high-skilled people. Adding 25 million uneducated low skilled workers, who provide low motivation for education to their own children, will only bring US down in this competition. And it will decrease overall level of livings for US citizen. Health care cost is going up, educational cost is going up, environmental cost is going up, infrastructure cost is going up... so contribution of low skilled labor is going down
I saw our neighbors have installed artificial grass last weekend on their lawn. They will safe a lot of money on water bill and maintenance cost now. And won't need low skilled labor help any more either.

Ok, let me break this down into very small pieces...
Absolutely we do. Because if every American shells out for a degree no one's going to want to do anything else. And of course everyone absolutely has to have a college degree, no one should be forced to live without indoctrination being shoved down their throat thanks to federal funding of the university system and/or funding from conservative and liberal action groups. Hence, absolutely zero political parties in Washington have any interest in closing up the borders to those coming here illegally. In fact, it's a very big wink-wink nod-nod system that's accepted in all but an official sense. So it's a good thing most of them are nice, decent, hard-working people that we would actually want in this country anyway, because they're coming.
