Can anyone explain this to me.

Does it actually match the SS # to the applicant or does it merely verify that the SS # is valid?

I don't really know -- but you'd think with all the government's database abilities, that we could expect it to have a database of valid social security numbers, and be able to match them up with deaths and stolen numbers to have them flagged.

The problem is that the politicians are actually trying to reward all who break the laws -- including those who knowingly have been hiring and bringing illegals into the country.

The problem isn't with the laws, it's the utter lack of enforcement.

Both. You can't have the later, without the first.

It doesn't work at all. The current president does not pass the E-verify test. Fact.

It has around a 96% accuracy rate.

You do understand that there are other pathways to citizenship than birth. Even if he were not born on US soil, he could still become naturalized and pass an E-verify check.

Once you register to access the system, you sign into the system. If it is a Green Card, you enter the number and a copy of the card comes up enlarged. With this you can match the picture, age, name, and address against the person in front of you. On a US citizen it shows all the information the the SS administration has on their records. Actually it works very well.
The big issue is you CANNOT check your existing employees for some dumb reason.

We had it down a couple of years ago. On the deciding day 12 people didn't show so I'd say it works just fine.

You can do an e-verify check on your self. I did and they said I had a right to work and live in the United States!
