DES MOINES, Iowa — Rep. Tom Tancredo says his fellow Republican presidential candidates are aiding immigrants in breaking the law by taking part in this weekend's Spanish-language debate in Miami.
"What all my colleagues — what the other candidates are doing — it's encouraging violation of the law because it's saying, 'Don't worry about the fact that you have to know English to earn citizenship,' " said Mr. Tancredo, the only Republican to turn down the invitation from Univision for Sunday night's debate and who said the other candidates' participation was worse than pandering.

Good for him. Tom Tancredo is nothing if not a man of principle. You have to admire him for that.

Having a Spanish Speaking debate has nothing to do with illegal immigration. I don't see any parallel. Tom Tancredo and Duncan Hunter should have joined the Border Patrol instead of being politicians. Illegal Immigration is a problem, but these guys have nothing better to talk about.

Mr. Tancredo said he has a little money and a short period of time before the caucuses, so he figured he needed to make as much of an impact as he could. But he said he wasn't going for shock value in order to try to regain territory.

I think he is going for shock value.

The tide of pubilc opinion is turning-----------faster and faster against the illegal immigrants and their enablers (both Bleeding Hearts and business people who are unscrupulous in making a buck)
I am just going to sit back and watch the 'train wreck'.

You don't see the parallel? In order to vote, one must be an American citizen. In order to be an American citizen, one MUST speak English.
If then, these debates are being held in front of American citizens, why should they be translated into Spanish?
Why not have the Thai debates, the Chinese debates, the Polish debates, the Italian debates, the Korean debates?
Because the vast majority of illegal immigrants in the U.S. are Spanish speaking, that's why.
Can anybody say "voter fraud?"

Him turning down a Spanish-debate has little to do with illegals.
Unless he (and you) are saying that all Spanish Speaking Americans are enablers of the illegal "invasion"?

I see no reason why we couldn't have those debates, if they were created and invited to one.
