Righty ho ... how about starting with the 60 hospitals having to close in California alone because they could no longer afford to treat illegal bums for free
What a load of crap you posted, lukeache ...
I am sorry about posting "crap" from the Wall Street Journal. Next time, I will make sure I post something with a "no-spin approach" from FOX News or Bill O'Reilly. As far as hospitals closing, most of these hospitals are "ghetto hospitals" in places like East LA, Watts, Pico Rivera etc. Like I said, I do not think they will close Beverly Hospital or Santa Monica-UCLA hospital anytime soon because of illegals. As much as I do not agree with hospitals closing because of illegals, it is the governments responsability to come up a reasonable health care system and enforce immigration law. I find it hard to believe that the wealthiest country in the world is unable to resolve this problem. Hence the reason why I do not understand why some people are so "passionate" about this issue. It is not like the people in charge do not know what they are doing or are not aware of the problem.
Lukeache, the WSJ is a decent rag, certainly for business news, but the editors are inconsistent in their attempt to be consistent at being, um, neutral. Therefore you get articles that would warm Goebbels' heart, and the next day something from a Southern Poverty Law Center hack.
Also, no need to mention that you are sorry ... only wimpy people are ever sorry. You do or say something that is stupid, you take your consequences and leave it at that.
As for Fox news, what is it about the Left that they think this channel is overwhelmingly Right? I watch mainly C-Span and CNBC as I make half my living from the markets, but I also watch Fox and CNN occasionally, and I don't see much difference between Fox and CNN.
I'm with you on health care ... it is a disgrace that America is the only industrial country in the world that fails to insure all its citizens, other than South Africa but that country is an economic disaster at this time.
Your condescending attitude is partly responsible for the many negative responses to your post. But thanks for edu-ma-cating all us roobs ...
Another reason is that the article in the WSJ states facts but does not clearly elucidate what they mean.
"immigrants on balance are five times less likely to be in prison than someone born here". The author is quoting national, not regional statistics. For the entire US population that may be true, but how many illegals live in Alaska or Wyoming ...
For example, look at the prision population of California, a State over-run with illegals.
From Wikipedia, "Of the 160,000 prisoners in California, two-thirds are African American and Latino and 25% are not United States citizens." 25% seems like a pretty big number to me, bub, considering these illegal bums are only 4% of the population according to the author. Seems to me, just off th' farm yuh know, but ay been figurin' and that be about six times what it oughta be ... mighty strange that be ... (I will accept that California also has a larger proportion of illegals than the national, but really ...)
The author then gives himself an out ... "None of this is to argue that illegal immigration doesn't have costs, especially in border communities and states with large public benefits." Righty ho ... how about starting with the 60 hospitals having to close in California alone because they could no longer afford to treat illegal bums for free ...

Did the 60 hospitals release any statement on why they closed? I would love to read some of those statements but you probably can't find one because they didn't base their closure just because they "could no longer afford to treat illegal bums for free". When luke presents an educated, researched and factual article everybody jumps on his case. Yet you guys don't provide your own educated and factual research, everything you anti- immigrant crowd spew are based on stereotypes and lies.

Well, pal, maybe you would like to peruse the real facts that illegal immigrants are closing hospitals from the Spring 2007 edition of the Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons that clearly shows the burden illegal alien bums are creating for the American taxpayer.

The article may be educated, researched (only slightly), and factual, however empty and full of unsupported assumptions. An article like this could never stand up to scientific scrutiny in making the claims the author is attempting to peddle. If the author was true to his claims in an unbiased manner, he would have provided much more detailed information.
Furthermore, neither you nor luke have addressed my response as it pertains to education or health care. How is it possible that adding millions of children from low to non-taxpaying families to our education and health care systems is helping our tax situation? This unwanted population has a big impact on a high wage earner in a socialistic state. We have enough poor AMERICANS to pay for let alone a bunch of people that don't belong here.
Luke often claims that the upper class is not effected by illegal immigration, and holds no animosity toward the illegal aliens. Moderator cut: please comment on the topic, but not the validity of the poster Those of us in the highest tax brackets are effected TREMENDOUSLY, because we are paying the majority of the bill. While those in the lower tax brackets are effected TREMENDOUSLY by having to compete with people that will accept unacceptable wages.
There are those in the higher tax brackets where the profits made from the exploitation of the illegals outweighs the tax ramifications. But these are in the minority of high wage earners.

Read it and get back to me ... oh by the way it's in English ...
WOW, first of all that article is in 2005 and on Democracy Now, Lou Dobbs referred to Dr. Cosman as a whack job. Do you know Dr. cosman is not a real medical doctor?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
AMY GOODMAN: That’s Lou Dobbs on the show. The source behind the claim that there was a spike of 7,000 new cases of leprosy was a controversial medical attorney named Madeleine Cosman. In 2005, she described undocumented immigrants as “deadly time bombs, because of the diseases they bring into the country.” Cosman, who died last year, has also been criticized for these comments she made about Mexican men. MADELEINE COSMAN: Recognize that most of these bastards molest girls under age twelve, some as young as age five, others age three. Although, of course, some specialize in boys, some specialize in nuns, some are exceedingly versatile and rape little girls age eleven and women up to age seventy-nine.
What is important here is the psychiatric defenses: Why do they do what they do? They do not need a jail; they need a hospital. They are depraved because they were deprived in their home country. But more important is the cultural defense: they suffer from psychiatric cognitive disjuncture, for what does a poor man do if in his home country of Mexico in his jurisdiction if rape is ranked lower than cow stealing? Of course, he will not know how to behave here in strange America. This is thoroughly reprehensible.
AMY GOODMAN:Madeleine Cosman, that’s her quote. She actually is not a medical doctor. She’s a Renaissance author and scholar of sorts. Lou Dobbs? LOU DOBBS: What would you have me say, Amy? Because what—the reality is what you don’t say, is that Leonhardt’s piece was filled with errors. Secondly, Madeleine Cosman, as we learned following that report in Physicians and Surgeons, the publication, is precisely what you styled her: she is a wack—or was a wackjob. But the New York Times didn’t know that, either. If you would read the obituary for Madeleine Cosman in the New York Times—have you done that, by the way? She died a year ago, which was, by the way, a year after we had used her as a source in a report, along with other people. Did you read that obituary? Did you find that the New York Times had come to basically the same conclusion we had, that she was a credible source? Because if you read that obituary, it is glowing and filled with plaudits for Madeleine Cosman. And s

Your article is trash because the person who wrote it wasn't even a medical doctor.
besides that, the cosman character who wrote that article was not even a medical doctor. Even lou dobbs called her a wack job . Her claim about 7,000 leprosy cases in the last 3 years is a lie. Cbs did a report and discovered the truth about how many cases we had.
LESLEY STAHL: We checked that and found a report issued by the US Department of Health and Human Services saying 7,000 is the number of leprosy cases over the last thirty years, not the past three, and nobody knows how many of those cases involve illegal immigrants

Your article is trash because the person who wrote it wasn't even a medical doctor.
So any article that is about the problem of illegal aliens using US health care services is trash unless it is written by a doctor? I wouldn't be too quick to blow off attorneys who specialize in medicolegal cases as many are very knowledgeable.
