The Constitution allows states to let immigrants vote in local elections;

....the Supreme Court has upheld states rights to permit noncitizens to vote.

Quote:
Currently, noncitizens vote in seven jurisdictions in the United States,

....and another three towns have passed local laws but await state enabling legislation to implement.

More than a dozen other cities are -- or recently have -- considered restoring immigrant voting rights.

This website is a central hub for information about and organizing among advocates of immigrant voting rights.
DEMOCRACY FOR ALL

When a qualified voter is prevented from voting, democracy is the real loser. Here are things to watch out for, and ways you can protect your vote if someone tries to intimidate you to stop you from voting.

It was only in the 20s that many states even began to restrict immigrant voting.

If someone expects assimilation, then voting is an obvious place to start.

The post highlights the word immigrants, which would describe a legal resident. Are you trying to say you feel illegal aliens should have the right to vote?

That is certainly the implication. 'Illegal Aliens' have no right to vote in this country.....they have no right to even be here. OTOH, 'Legal Immigrants' have every right to vote in this country. There is a HUGE difference between the two.

Agreed, a HUGE difference. I'm still waiting for User2 to clarify what he means.

Great point, Benicar.

Why do so many have such difficulty with the term ILLEGAL?

You need clarification?

It's simple enough, eh?

It's called the immigration forum, not the illegal immigration forum.

As a legal matter, there's no such thing as an illegal alien.

An immigrant, aka someone who has obtained citizenship legally, has every right to vote, and very well should. ANYONE in this country ILLEGALLY has absolutely NO RIGHT to vote. Even to suggest this is absolutely ridiculous. You might as well let citizens of Canada, France, England, South Africa and every other country in the world vote in our election if you're going to let citizens of Mexico vote. Am I the only one who thinks this is nutty-er than squirrel turds?
