WASHINGTON — Donald Trump's tough-talking plan to rein in illegal immigration showed signs Sunday of cracking, with the president-elect backing off his vow to build a solid wall along the southern U.S. border and House Speaker Paul Ryan rejecting any "deportation force" targeting people in the country illegally.

After Trump told CBS' "60 Minutes" that his border wall might look more like a fence in spots, the combative billionaire took to Twitter to settle some scores.

Cracks emerge in Trump's campaign promise on immigration

Even IF Trump does go "soft" on illegal aliens; their kind are still scared out of their wits since he won the election. The US IMHO will still a tougher place for illegals than under Obama.

A wall is too expensive. He's going to increase border security by 25,000. Previous administrations have intentionally understaffed border security.

He's also not going to be rounding up illegals. He's going to finally implement E Verify. Illegals will self-deport when the jobs dry up.

700 miles of wall has already been approved by congress it just needs to be funded. Since illegals cost us $113 billion a year it will be cost effective. Illegals will self-deport if we remove the job incentives, benefits and birthright citizenship for their kids.

Are you talking about ending birthright citizenship?

Illegal Immigration a $113 Billion a Year Drain on U.S. Taxpayers

Our birthright citizenship should be for at least one parent to be a citizen or legal immigrant of our country. Not repeating the reasons why again as we are told we are beating a dead horse.

IMHO birthright for US born kids under 18 years old WILL go away unless at least 1 parent's a US citizen.

The US born kids of even Mexican diplomats here DON'T get birthright, def NO reason to give it to people who ain't here legally.

I heard stated on a news report how it would cost a fortune and take 20 years to complete what he wants. He says he can do it in 18 months... Just one of many ideas he presented that will be ultimately dissapointing for his followers who chose him due to the grandiose and unrealistic plans he has.

Don't know much about Trump do ya? Btw they also said he would never be president. Let that soak in a little. Give the man a chance to take office.

Honestly, I don't think a wall is necessary. We just need to strictly enforce immigration laws.

Maybe we can get local law enforcement involved. Because right now, local law enforcement cannot do anything towards immigration and visa issues. If someone cannot produce a visa or green card, they are held until customs & immigration can verify their status. If they cannot be verified, they are held in prison until they reveal their real name and citizenship.

If an employer is caught hiring illegals, they will be heavily fined. If it occurs again, they go to jail. Same thing for landlords taking in illegals.
