How is that apple and oranges? He was born in the U.S and has completed k-12 in Virginia. He has lived there all his life and even votes in that state, so it's pretty stupid for the attorney general to say he is not considered a resident of that state. I can't wait for the lawsuits to start flying in.
This decision was made by the state attorney general, and i guarantee it will be struck down if they take it to court. The kid should contact the ACLU about his situation. This law will not prevent any "anchor" baby from getting instate because of the loophole about student making their own case separate from their parents. I truly believe the attorney general is doing it just to satisfy the anti- immigrant crowd out there.
I don't think so, it proves that this country will allow you to be a citizen to sacrifice yourself no matter if your parents are legal or not, same standard.
But it will not allow you to develop like the rest of kids in Virginia, double standard.
This kid cannot afford out of state, what is he going to do now?

I agree I think we will see this law get struck down, ridiculous state law.
If Lopez (the 18 YO in question) lived with his illegal immigrant parents; definitely apples and oranges IMHO as well.
That stated: if the student lived with either by himself or with people here legally------and, can prove his residence in Va for over 12 consecutive months, I would give him a 'bye' and allow him to pay in-state tuition rates.
I dont think so, VA is getting more and more PO'd with illegals and anchor babies dont bet on it.
So stop your companies from hiring them, don't stop a citizen from affording an education like the rest of the kids in state can.
What I don't get is in this case, he wants to pay money to the college, so really this becomes nothing but greed on part of Virginia schools wanting more money.
