They can't. How does a hacker get passed the air gap problem? Does the hackers traffic just jump out of the wall and leak into the machines by osmosis?

You didn't watch the piece about DEF CON hackers convention in Las Vegas last year. They don't have to change votes in the machines. Just need to disqualify certain id'd registered voters. IIRC hackers have been into 25ish state voter rolls.
And that 16 yo kid did register himself to vote in a state he did not live in using a decommissioned machine bought off e bay.
"Nearly 40 million Social Security numbers have been stolen and used by illegal immigrants and others to get work, according to agency records obtained by an immigration reform group."
"Their report draws attention to a move by former President Barack Obama to stop sending so-called “no match” letters to employers notifying them that numbers used by employees on the wage forms do not match their identity.
The change followed the president’s decision to approve amnesty for some 700,000 younger immigrants let into the U.S. under his Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. Some of those have been dubbed “dreamers.”
E-Verify is the best method for catching illegals trying to work in the USA. Why isn't Trump and the GOP controlled congress forcing E-Verify to be mandated for all companies in the USA?
Rick Scott, R, Governor of FL campaigned on enacting E-Verify in Florida. After winning he chose NOT to enact E-Verify. He said he didn't want to put Florida businesses at a disadvantage. He knows employers want to hire cheap illegal immigrants over Americans and he allowed it to continue by choosing NOT to enact E-Verify. Rick Scott is now running for US Senate in FL. He knows that E-Verify catches illegals trying to work but he'd rather look the other way and allow companies to hire illegals, because it's better for them.
E-Verify needs to be enacted nationwide at the federal level. The Republicans in congress don't want to enact E-Verify because companies like to hire illegals. They don't want a computer system which identifies illegals.
e-verify is susceptible to fraud and needs a redesign.

The "source" is FOIA Lawsuits to obtain the records from the Social Security Administration.
As a matter of curiosity -- which one of these "FOIA" or Social Security Administration do you have a problem with as being a "reliable source" ????????
[i][color]IRLI recently filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the Social Security Administration (SSA), seeking records related to its Obama-era decision to halt sending "no-match" letters to employers. The long-held practice of sending the letters had been used to prevent fraud through the use of stolen Social Security number (SSN) data by illegal aliens and other criminals. A "no-match" letter informed employers and employees, usually in response to an employee W-2 wage report, that the name or SSN reported by the employer did not match a name or SSN combination reflected in SSA’s records.
The FOIA records produced by SSA as a result of IRLI’s lawsuit have shown that, from 2012 to 2016, there were 39 million instances where names and Social Security numbers on W-2 tax forms did not match the corresponding Social Security records.
[b]Think about that for a minute -- In four years time - 39 MILLION cases where the SS# on W-2 Tax forms did NOT MATCH Social Security records.
Here is what the article is NOT telling you -- The Social Security Administration does NOTHING about this known information.
1). They don't inform the REAL Holder of the SS# that their SS# is stolen and being used by somebody else.
2). They don't tell the IRS that 2 people are using the same SS# & one of them is fraudulent.
3). They don't tell any Law Enforcement Authority that somebody is Fraudulently using a stolen SS#.
Even IF the Legal Owner of the SS# discovers that another person is using their SS# Fraudulently -- the Government won't tell you WHO that person is OR if they will do anything about it . (they won't do anything about it). IF you are lucky - you can spend a couple of years attempting to straighten out your records so the IRS doesn't take your home and get a "Special Code" to attach to your Tax Return so that you can get rid of the threatening letters ..... which they explained to me are just form letters and I should have worried about the "threats". It took us just over 2 years to get to the bottom of IRS claiming we owed them $3,800 (later found out this was an Income Earned Credit payment they sent to somebody using our SS# in California) when we had Records showing we wrote a check for about $5,000 ON TOP OF the $14,000 we had in withholdings for that year.
For the math challenged -- WE paid almost $20,000 in Taxes and somebody used our Stolen SS#'s to get the stupid IRS to SEND THEM $3,800. IRS wanted their money back -- BUT they expect us to pay for their mistakes.
This stuff is no JOKE - there ARE Victims to these criminal aliens stealing your Social Security# or better yet ... Your child's number and using it for whatever they can get away with. It's next to impossible to even find out if your SS# is being used by somebody fraudulently - the only way to find out is when you discover accidentally - nobody informs you - Even though the Government is certainly aware of it.
The termination of no-match letters has resulted in a thriving black market where illegal aliens can obtain the Social Security numbers of U.S. citizens in order to gain employment. The Social Security numbers of young children are especially sought by illegal aliens, as this theft is likely to go undetected for years. As children reach late teenage years and apply for credit for cars, student loans, and other needs, they may find that their credit has been compromised with mortgages, credit cards and criminal records attached to their identities.
