Farmers have access to an agricultural visa program that has no caps on it. Those farmers who use the visa program have no problems getting their crops picked. It's the sleazy farmers who refuse to use the visa program and instead opt for cheap, exploitable, illegal labor who have trouble getting their crops picked during crackdowns on illegals.
It's pure BS to claim that farmers can't get workers.
Immigrants should not be receiving public assistance programs as a rule of any kind, which is the point. Historically, if you came to this country as an immigrant, you worked hard and made a better life for your children - there were no housing vouchers, no welfare for elderly parents, etc.
Anecdotally, when we lived in LA, I taught many legal immigrant students, who had brought over their elderly parents. Almost all of them were receiving housing vouchers, welfare, etc. That is the definition of insanity in my understanding of reality.
Notice how The Times refers to illegals as "unauthorised immigrants".
Yes, it is stated as such so as not to offend the delicate sensibilities of illegal aliens and their fervent supporters. There is also the more delicate use of "undocumented" as well. As if somehow their paperwork was overlooked or misplaced during the process.
I stopped reading at page 9 as all the back and forth just seemed repetitive and without an understanding of why, illegal is...illegal and has consequences.
At the end of the day, for my part anyway, no apologies and no regrets for finally enforcing current, on the books, law and trying to create rules which would hopefully discourage further erosion at our borders.
WASHINGTON — Trump administration officials announced Saturday that immigrants who legally use public benefits like food assistance and Section 8 housing vouchers could be denied green cards under new rules aimed at keeping out people the administration deems a drain on the country.
Caravan my hiney, it is absolutely an attempt to intimidate and behave in a lawless manner.
I was a Green Card Holder for over 30 years. You cannot go on welfare or be on any Public Dole if you are "guest" of the country. You are expected to work or someone needs to guarantee your support. When you apply for US Citizenship there is a question on the application to determine if you applied for public assistance. I'd hate to answer yes...

Obviously Baby July I do not know your particular circumstances, however, my experience in the agricultural industry tells me otherwise. However, I will say perhaps your experiences may have been exceptional.
With all due respect, sincerely and as my father used to say, "there's more than one way to skin a cat".
I hate DT but I'm mostly okay with this. What I am against is that it seems to count things like Medicare as welfare.
Medicare is welfare. The issue I have with including Medicare is if you take medical away from these people the chances of an outbreak spreading like wildfire in a city like NY increases 1000%.
