What is "sensible immigration reform" according to you? Be specific. Quantify it.
There is no reform needed. Over 1 million people legally immigrate to the US every year. The truth is "reform" is to lower or remove the requirements which won't happen. No country in the world wants a mass influx of uneducated unskilled poor people. It's not good for anyone.
We know of one group that benefits the most. They get their cheap unskilled maids and wait staff while enjoying newly minted votes for their party. It's a win-win for them.
I noticed you sneakily lumped in illegals with the legal immigrants. We let in plenty of legal immigrants. We can always increase or decrease the quota as necssary. It is the illegals that is the problem.
Legal immigrants, especially under Trump's proposal, entering based on merit will contribute to this country. The illegal ones will take from this country (low skill, poor, lots of children, likely to commit crimes, need government financial, housing and medical care, overwhelming schools, hospitals, etc.) How hard is that to figure out?
I know you Leftists know that but will disregard it just to oppose Trump.

Allow those who’ve been here for years to become naturalized so they can pay taxes, SS/Medicare etc, increase the temporary visa programs for migrant workers who otherwise have to sneak in and out to pick produce and go home, etc. Balance that out with better border protection and increased cooperation with our neighbors to the north and south. Also increase focus on public education, especially STEM, to prevent the need to bring in more people from Asia to work IT, etc.

And they boast about it too. All these recent election threads, the Leftists are happily saying how this state and that state is turning purple or blue (Democrats) and there's no future hope for the GOP.
Here's the agenda. They are either bleeding heart liberals who only deal in emotions rather than common sense, hire them for profit, want to import more Democrat voters or have ethnic ties to illegal aliens.

The OP said he/she was addressing "illegal immigration and immigration in general" and the entire post listed concerns that are equally applicable to illegal and legal migrants. Take it up with the OP.

I would add an increased focus on cost-effective solutions to reduce demand by holding employers responsible for employing illegal immigrants, which will be vastly more effective in stemming the flow of illegal immigrants than expensive physical barriers.
It should be self-evident that if we make it easier to emigrate here legally while making it more difficult to do so illegally, more people will come here legally and less illegally.
there will not be enough jobs for everyone. Even the folks here on visas who are coming here legally are taking jobs from qualified people already here. It's become so much more competitive to find a job for anyone because people from all over the world want have easier access to come to our colleges and come here to work. I guess it doesn't matter?
getting a job as a nurse for example is not easy yet there is a nursing shortage. No way in hell will someone who just migrated here be able to get a job as a nurse. I have to say that many jobs in the US are not easy to get and the ones that are easy to get no one wants!! How is this NOT considered a problem??
