Dave Rosarito, since you seem to be an intelligent poster, I'm going to assume the difference between your residency in Mexico and illegals in Los Angeles (where I live) comes down to the following:
-You don't live on Mexico welfare, funded by its taxpayers
-You don't drive without a license and insurance
-You don't lack even the most meager, minimal vocabulary in the native tongue
-You don't berate the citizenry of the country in which you reside as a knee-jerk reflex at every opportunity you get
-You're not in a gang because you consider vendettas to be "normal"
Illegals are on the take here, and are genuine haters. There's quite a difference between them and visitors or legal immigrants, in any civilized country.

I'm pretty sure he's not an illegal immigrant living in Mexico
Foreigners in another country are typically afforded the same rights as a resident of that country. I am a visitor in Mexico, and have the full rights of any Mexican citizen. The exception, I guess, is that I could be deported to the US . . . .
And you WOULD be if they were to find you are there illegally collecting their welfare handouts or working there illegally.
Not only would you be deported, you would be barred from reentry for at least 10 years.
And -- just how many rights would an American have in Mexico if they were there working illegally?

Almost never are foreigners given the full rights of citizenship, not in any country. For example, did they hand you an IFE card? Every Mexican is entitled to one of those but I'll bet you don't have one.
I live here legally with a FM. I am NOT a Mexican citizen, so you're right, I don't vote and I don't have a vorter's ID card. DUH . . . .
And no, I don't work here (although many, many from the US do, in almost every industry and field of employment) but if I wanted to, I could get permission to do so.
And I would not be permitted to live here if I couldn't afford to.
But I do have the same full legal rights as a Mexican citizen for every "normal" everyday thing. I am afforded the same protection under the law as everyone else here.
The same is true if you visited Germany, England, France, etc. -- other than migration and related issues, they (and most countries) don't HAVE different rights for foreigners.
I believe they have the right not to be murdered, robbed, raped, and so on. They should be returned to their homelands with some compassion such as the comfortable INS buses that are used (not like the transportation used to send them here). If they must be detained in a holding facility, there should be food and water and decent conditions.
When they arrive back in Mexico, Mexico should try to get them back to their home villages.
I would agree with that. I don't want to see anyone mistreated, even if they committed a crime in coming here. I don't even see them as criminals, per se, if the only crime they broke is crossing the border without permission.
They should be treated with dignity, as malamute describes, as they are quickly sent on their way back to the country they came from. Mexicans, Canadians, anyone.
Let's spend millions, even billions, in gathering them all up, putting them on buses, and then shipping them down to mexico. (you know you'd need people, or police officers for that). and perhaps we can borrow CNN's news helicopter and watch 30 million mexicans run back into the country.
Yeah. How logical does that sound?
Keep them here. Provide ways for them to become legal. Slap them with the missed taxes. Possibly even jail time, even. Heavy the fines for employers hiring illegals, off the books. $1500.. That one is a joke. Add three zero's to it and call it a day.
But you wouldn't NEED to physically deport all of them if no one gave them jobs and financial support. Arizona's method should work just fine. Those people here illegally that are caught committing other crimes or minor infractions would be the ones deported.
Visitors go home-- illegals don't. When i apply for my residency and citizenship i will be in line like anyone else. I will pay the fees and obey the constitution and laws of immigration. Because i am married to a American does not give me the right to assume that should be able to avoid immigration laws. Maybe i should just come over on holiday and stay and tell America that i am human too? NO illegal is illegal.
I do believe they at the very least have the basic humane rights given to them, If they were to be mistreated, I would fight for them.
