MEXICO CITY — One migrant gets his legs sliced off by a train's wheels. Another is shot by bandits on the Arizona border. Others are beaten and robbed by crooked Mexican police.

Is this a genuine attempt by Mexico to discourage its citizens from migrating to the US, or just election year politics from south of the border?

What a laughable response -- I remember the complaints about the earlier publications that focused on the illegal's (to be) safety and rights and why doesn't the Mexican government try to dissuade them from trying to cross. Now they issue a publication trying to do just that, and this is your reaction?
Here it seems, damned if you do, damned if you don't . . . .
"Next they will demand ..." You don't specify who the "they" are, but tell us, exactly what HAS the Mexican Government demanded of the US Government (in regards to the illegals)?

I agree with that, a comic comes out showing illegals how to cross the border safely causes nothing but crying.
However, when a comic shows the downside of those who emigrate...it is brushed to the side and discredited.

It's hard to say what the goal is. I don't think Felipe Calderon has ever expressed a wish that his Mexican citizens would return home and help do something for Mexico. I think he's been quite clear he wants more to leave Mexico.
He may be worried about the PR for the Mexican government because that other comic book looked pretty sick showing a border crossing to look quite simple and easily done when over 600 Mexicans were dying trying to do so.

Money that is sent home to Mexico by the illegals in the US has become a multi-billion $$$ revenue stream for Mexico. This revenue stream from the illegals in the US has eclipsed the revenue generated by tourism in Mexico. It doesn't take a Harvard economist to the see the negative effects on the Mexican economy a reduction in the illegals' revenue stream would have on the administration and popularity of Presidente Felipe Calderon.

The majority of this "revenue stream" is NOT from illegals, but from US residents. And it is a revenue stream directly to the Mexican families of the US workers, it does not go to the Mexican Government, it goes into the economy.

With all due respect, the money that is sent to Mexico is from the incomes of both legal and illegal aliens. A significant part of the money sent to Mexico is from illegal aliens living in the USA. President Phillipe Calderon is playing both sides of the 'fence' for the purpose of politics and nationalism. Other countries also receive money from illegal aliens living in the USA, but Mexico is the greatest benefactor of illegal alien income coming into the country. A good day!

I agree 100%, Andreabeth!
Granted this latest approach, if sincere, is better than nothing but a simple "IT IS ILLEGAL" should have been considered.
It is very obvious the Mexican Government could care less about the safety of their "less desirable" citizens and that's why they have been both encouraging and subsidizing their illegal entry into this country.

Very interesting, Dave . . . do you have "proof" of these facts?
