They've always been essential and now they have the paperwork to prove it.
LOL this is too funny. The knuckleheads here must be fuming.
Fuming over what? The virus won't last forever and there's no such designation as essential worker for life.
They weren't given citizenship and they aren't part of the stimulus package. You people are reaching.
“It’s sad that it takes a health crisis like this to highlight the farmworkers’ importance,” said Hector Lujan, chief executive of Reiter Brothers, a large family-owned berry grower based in Oxnard, Calif., that also has operations in Florida and the Pacific Northwest.
presumably, he's not Ms Silva's employer, since the USGov allows near unlimited field worker visas.
Sure farm workers are important but what this ethnocentric executive of this berry growing business is trying to convey is that we need illegal aliens to pick berries when that's simply not true. We have the unlimited visas for farm workers. Besides, berries and fruit can be picked by machines now.
Without the illegals where will you buy your produce, are you going out to the farms and pick your lettuce, tomatoes, strawberries, etal.
I'm not for illegals but we have to face reality. And most local farm governments do.

Only 2-4% of illegals are picking crops so that means that most are here legally on visas picking crops and they are unlimited so you were saying? That's your reality! We don't need illegals picking crops or doing any jobs in this country.

There is a great program to allow foreign nationals into this country and work legally. It is the H-2A visa program. The H-2A visa program has no numerical cap so it will allow all of the needed workers to temporarily work legally in America.
