People are constantly mentioning hispanic illegals causing a lot of crime in Los Angeles.

Some even like to point out the African-Americans leaving Los Angeles, because Hispanics are making it more dangerous.

Not to offend anyone..but if hispanics are making LA so much more dangerous..

why were crime rates so much higher in the early, mid 90s? Why has crime dropped so much since then?

And back then, Hispanics were not yet a majority in cities like Compton, or areas like South Central.

Gang culture was American born, and it definitely didn't immigrate here. There are many gangs in LA and there always will be, but how do people back up the claim that the influx of (more) hispanic immigrants is somehow making the city more dangerous?

Because numbers definitely do not back it up.

This is about Los Angeles, but it serves as an example for people having fears that hispanic immigration will cause a giant jump in crime in other parts of the nation.

• In Los Angeles, 95 percent of all outstanding warrants for homicide (which total 1,200 to 1,500) target illegal aliens. Up to two-thirds of all fugitive felony warrants (17,000) are for illegal aliens.

• A confidential California Department of Justice study reported in 1995 that 60 percent of the 20,000-strong 18th Street Gang in southern California is illegal; police officers say the proportion is actually much greater. The bloody gang collaborates with the Mexican Mafia, the dominant force in California prisons, on complex drug-distribution schemes, extortion, and drive-by assassinations, and commits an assault or robbery every day in L.A. County. The gang has grown dramatically over the last two decades by recruiting recently arrived youngsters, most of them illegal, from Central America and Mexico.

Saying that 60 percent of a a criminal gang is illegal isnt the same as saying 60 percent of illegals are in a criminal gang.

The study on 18th street is from 1995, 13 years ago. Crime has dropped since then, but immigration hasnt.

Im not talking about statistics within gangs, or the fact that yes, crime still does exist.

Bring up the crime numbers showing the difference between then and now.
I'm trying to show that there isnt much correlation between crime and illegal immigrants, and you bring me statistics on a gang.

Originally 100 percent of the Crips were black, but that didn't mean 100 percent of blacks were crips.

Los Angeles has been experiencing significant decline in crime since the mid-1990s, and hit a record low in 2007, with 392 homicides. Criminality peaked in 1992 with 72,667 recorded acts of violence — of which 1,096 were homicides — and 245,129 recorded property crimes. The year before, Los Angeles recorded 1,025 murders. The distribution of homicides in the city is uneven with nearly half of them occurring in the four stations of the South Bureau of the LAPD encompassing South Los Angeles and the Harbor area. The LAPD makes live crime statistics available on the LAPD crimestats and epolice web site

You must realize that the anti-immigrant crowd NEVER go on facts. They always rely on fear mongering and propaganda.

This has already been challenged and debunked so many times.

Quote:
According to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons, in 2005, 25% of prisoners in federal prisons were illegal aliens, and 4% were legal aliens. This proportion has not gone down; if anything, it has gone up markedly. Bill O'Reilly is on record more recently stating that illegal aliens account for 32% of the federal and state prison population.
.
Quote:

Btw, doj estimates that only 6.3 percent of federal prisoners are non- citizens.

It is not more dangerous I do not know who says that

but it is still dangerous, and a lot of that has to do w/ hispanic gangs, and most of those have to be illegal

our immigration quotas simply do not allow for LA to become the second largest hispanic city in the world

it is not racism, it is mathematics
