Statistics. From January 2017 to March 2018, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police intercepted 25,645 people crossing the border into Canada illegally. Public Safety Canada estimated that another 2,500 came across in April 2018 for a total of just over 28,000, of which 1,000 had been removed from Canada.
Putting it into perspective, that's the equivalent of 300,000 crossing the US border illegally. That nmber doesn't include the people who fly to Canada and then disappear.

In those numbers are the illegal entrants that applied for refugee status. Those that aren't accepted are deported.
Those that are awaiting a decision can not work legally.
Your info seems plucked out of Wikipedia.
Thousands have been and still are deported every year even during the pandemic which started in 2020.
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-h...-idUSKBN29R1EL
However THIS situation is not what Doug Ford was mouthing off on.
He was imagining that illegals here were " taking the dole " or collecting benefits instead of working.
Since they can't collect employment benefits or welfare since they are illegal. If they are awaiting a decision they get some support while they wait. If they have been denied refugee status and run, they won't be able to work, or get healthcare without being found out.
Here is a list of employers who were fined. The maximum is $50,000 and/or two years in jail.

Is it a problem, to a point, but it is NOT on a scale like in the USA.

Well, since illegals use fake or stolen documents to gain employment what's to prevent them from using fraud to gain welfare and/or unemployment benefits? Our illegal aliens gain welfare via their anchor babies to. Not sure how Canada works though. I do know that they allow birthright citizenship for anyone born on their soil regardless of the parent's status in their country.

I think it's the last words that triggered them in Greta Thunberg style.

Second because you can't just collect Employment Insurance unless you have been working for at least a year in an insurance employable job. Cutting grass and getting paid for it, wouldn't qualify. Also I believe if you quit your job you aren't eligible either.

Going on welfare isn't fun, and you have be seeking employment.
A major point is that if you are an illegal you aren't going to get any of this. You can't get a job unless you have a Social Insurance Number. Employers caught hiring illegals are fined heavily. You can't collect ANY type of government assistance, including healthcare.
So no idea what Doug Ford is talking about. He is a bit of twit, and not that bright IMO and says things off the cuff that he later regrets. He has a history of that.

You're not supposed to notice the truth. And you're especially not supposed to say it out loud. He didn't get the memo I guess.
