Very little attention at yesterday’s hearing was given to the victims of illegal immigration. The FTC estimates that 8.3 million Americans were victims of identity fraud in 2005. And that number is on the rise. American families have had their lives ruined by identity theft. One witness story bears retelling.
Mrs. Costner and her husband were victims of identity theft at the hands of illegal immigrants. During the course of adopting their niece, their identity information was stolen. The first hint of a problem came when they received word that there was a warrant out for her husband’s license due to an unpaid speeding ticket. Upon investigation they learned that an illegal immigrant who could not speak English was stopped for speeding and produced a social security card with Mr. Costner’s name on it. Later, the illegal immigrant was arrested and despite assurances that he would be deported, he was returned to the streets. Later that year, he contacted the Costners to threaten them and saying “[the government] do nothing to me.”

This is a total outrage and further evidence that these wild animals care nothing about destroying the lives of Americans, yet we are supposed to care about their wellbeing? I don't think so.

Every 4 seconds an identity is stolen. The only time you find out about it is when an illegal immigrant steals one.

Prior to this invasion ID theft was an extremely rare occasion. Only if you were robbed did you have to be concerned about it. Now you have to guard everything you own with your life and God forbid you have an hispanic first or surname, you are easy prey.

Anything we don't want to give to illegals is caused by our racism.

How true! A few months ago, they reported a story on the local news involving an illegal alien who had stolen the identity of a man, and used his good credit to obtain a mortgage loan. It was quite an elaborate scheme. They discovered the fraud when the "real" man received some correspondence from the mortgage company. Illegals consider it an entitlement to steal and defraud.

That's usually how the victim finds out. From 96-98 I lived in Dallas, Texas. While there I requested a copy of my credit report (something I have always done annually from a very young age). When it arrived in the mail, someone had opened it, so I contacted the post master general who advised me to put a fraud alert on it. That was the best thing that I ever did. In 2005 someone in Florida was attempting to steal my identity within 2 days I received phone calls from Am-Ex, Visa, Mastercard, Verizon and a few other creditors asking about my application.
Despite the fact that I have a couple of the credit cards that the thief was trying to obtain didn't save me. According to the rep from Mastercard, if you have good credit, they normally issue another card regardless to whether or not you already have one with that company.
What saved me? The fact that I had an extended fraud alert on my credit report. How sad is that?
