Angelo Mathay’s mother brought him to the U.S. from the Philippines at age six, presumably for a vacation. He was surprised to learn that she didn’t intend to return in order to escape the tsismis (gossip) that resulted from Angelo’s out-of-wedlock birth. Years later, Angelo was unable to return to the Philippines even for his father’s funeral because the U.S. would not re-admitted him. He told the audience, “Filipinos believe tago ng tago (hide and hide) our status, but we have to come out of the shadows if we want to change immigration policy.”

Zeenat Bhamani, a Pakistani undergraduate, spoke of her family and the larger South Asian community’s feelings of shame about being undocumented. She said, “Especially in a post-9/11 world, we have to claim our full identities if we want equal treatment and an end to discrimination.”

Stephanie Solis did not learn she was undocumented until she was 18 when she announced to her parents that it was time to apply for a driver’s license, passport and college. They finally disclosed to her that, because of her status, she was not entitled to many of these rights. She admitted, “Yes, it is scary to stand at press conferences, or hearings, or speaking engagements and be identified as undocumented, but it would be much more scary if we didn’t speak out.”

Huh? They want "equal treatment'? How about getting your dead beat, self absorbed arrogant, whiney behinds back to your own country, at the back of the line and apply to come here LEGALLY?

Apparently, they only want equal treatment in America, when it suits their needs. Otherwise they would realize equal treatment would mean they and their criminal parents should be jailed and deported like every other lying, cheating illegal alien in this country.

All of these delusional idiots need to follow the yellow brick road and go home and demand "equal treatment" where they are citizens. This is not the land of Oz and we are not responsible for making their "DREAMS" come true.

The arrogance and sense of entitlement of these 2nd generational criminals knows no bounds.

Look, these kids are put into an awful position by their families --- not legal in this country and culturaly out of place in the nation of their birth.

That is not the US's fault though, nor is it the US's responsibility. The onus lies on their parents.

Agreed. They should stop whining, and blame their criminal parents. After all, that's who deliberately made them accessories to their crimes.

The more I read the more I realize that the one brain cell that all illegals must share is in heavy rotation. Time for a new brain cell with a different program that instructs them to blame their criminal parents for their illegal alien status and presence. Lastly, learn to take responsibility for your own actions. We didn't create the mess known as their lives, which forces them to live in the shadows.

When I read stories about people who have been waiting months and sometimes a year to come here legally, it makes my blood boil, to read stories about whiny criminals expecting America to be held accountable for their parents crimes.

It's amazing to me that none of these people are willing to place the blame where it actually lies...with the parent(s) who brought them illegally into this country. Instead, it is somehow America's fault?

Typical...

Not only is it typical, it's annoying as hell. I'm sure you, like I am beginning to realize that mentally, they are stuck in perpetual toddler status: nothing is ever their fault or responsibility.

No, they are not mentally stuck anywhere. They have realized that there are certain buttons that can be pushed that will get them what they want, unquestionably. Catchphrases would include: racism, discrimination, unfair, brown, classism, xenophobia, nationalism, nazism. Take at least two of the words listed and bingo! You have a cause complete with parades, 'pride days', and lobbyists.

You sure hit it w/ that one! And questioning this crap is politically incorrect - w/ the media, at least.
