Quote:
LAREDO, Texas - Five south Texas county sheriffs' offices - Bexar, Willacy, Dimmitt, Webb, and Zapata - have been added to the growing list of law enforcement agencies to receive biometrics-based immigration history information about inmates via the new Secure Communities program.

Secure Communities, which is administered by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), streamlines the process for ICE to determine if an arrested individual is a removable criminal alien.
5 additional Texas counties become part of new program to enhance identification and removal of criminal aliens (http://www.ice.gov/pi/nr/0906/090616laredo.htm - broken link)

Good.

Now, expand the program nationwide starting with the southern border states.

i think that is a terrific idea and about time!

i would love to see thumb scanners employed in a lot of ways in this country. it would cut down on check cashing fraud, illegal immigration, social security fraud, pharmacy fraud, etc. these criminals might think twice about committing a crime if they knew their fingerprints were on file with every transaction. you certainly wouldn't get the "500 people with the same social security number" stories.

people with nothing to hide won't object because they understand it cuts down on crime and the financial burden that criminals impose on the united states.

Austin does not need a mass exodus of anything. Austin is just fine. Especially judging from the fact that is rated one of the Best Places to Live, and is one of the cities that is faring the best in this economic downturn.

Says you. Mass amounts of criminals need to go, in most people's opinion.

I lived in Austin for 6 years, until August of last year. I went to Austin Community College and The University of Texas. Worked at Dell in Round Rock ( Slightly north of Austin) also for 6 years. Volunteered at several non-profits in Austin. Partially own 3 stores in Austin. Still own a house in the Austin area (Travis County) because I plan to return.

Now, what are your ties to Austin, TX?

What does your, my, or anyone's affiliation with Austin have to do with the fact that these people broke the law and have NO RIGHT to be here? They should leave because they are criminals, period. Although, I wouldn't expect you to argue against breaking immigration law when you yourself are doing it.

How am I braking immigration law? And my response was to a poster that said that Travis county needed a mass exit of illegals.
