Not all of the change is negative — Araujo, the former housekeeper, says she won't miss the constant threat of deportation. In Maricopa County, Ariz., where she lived, Sheriff Joe Arpaio has earned national attention for arresting illegal immigrants in anti-crime sweeps.
Blanca Castillo, Araujo's sister in-law who also recently returned home, notes that anti-Mexican sentiment seemed to be growing among Arizonans.
"Suddenly people were shouting things at you on the street," Castillo says. "It was like, as the economy went down, the racism went up."
Although I despise racism, I fully support non-racist anti-illegal sentiment.
i just wish that someone could convince our government not to implement its financial stimulus package until it gets its illegal immigration house in order. if they start throwing money around for infrastructure projects (employing blue collar work) they will not only stop self deportation but encourage more illegal immigration. if we spent some of this money working on illegal deportation we would free up more jobs naturally and then be in a position to do a smaller stimulus package with less risk to the taxpayers in this country.
Anyone caught hiring illegals on projects given stimulus package money should be immediately jailed and the Illegals deported. Not just deported but to the farthest reaches of their home Country.
some Mexican consulates, the number of requests for consular IDs has doubled as migrants update their addresses, he says. Many people in Arizona, Colorado and Virginia are moving to California and the Northeast, places seen as more migrant-friendly, he says
Translation: States where illegals can blend in and still get welfare benefits.

I think they are going to find it much tougher as the State is near bankruptcy. There will be no more handouts without verification like in the past. Many govt jobs are on the chopping block so everyone is looking at ways to reel in expenses and cut programs before they too get the axe.
HMMMM funding for Illegal Aliens or keep my job? HMMMM

When California turns against the illegal aliens------and it is just a matter of time--------it will be very ugly if said illegals squawk. Trust me: when push comes to shove; MEChA, NCLA and the other 'Hispanic' groups will side with the Minutemen, ALIPAC, etc. to protect their (economic) hides.

Attrition Through Enforcement Is the True Middle-ground Solution
President Bush and the rest of the open borders crowd constantly tell the American people that there are only two solutions to our nation's illegal alien crisis – give illegal aliens amnesty or round them up and deport them. This is a diversionary tactic to draw public attention away from the most effective and efficient solution – Attrition Through Enforcement.
The principle behind Attrition Through Enforcement is that living illegally in the United States will become more difficult and less satisfying over time when the government – at ALL LEVELS – enforces all of the laws already on the books. It is also imperative that the government with the full cooperation of the private sector, implements certain workplace enforcement measures. The goal is to make it extremely difficult for unauthorized persons to live and work in the United States. There is no need for taxpayers to watch the government spend billions of their dollars to round up and deport illegal aliens; they will buy their own bus or plane tickets back home if they can no longer earn a living here.
We know Attrition Through Enforcement will work because, until recently, it has been shown to work even with little or no enforcement. As it currently stands, almost 200,000 illegal aliens self-deport from the United States every year, but imagine how many more would leave if our government refused to award illegal aliens another amnesty, mandated all employers to verify a person’s eligibility to work here, cracked down on identity fraud, and enabled local police to easily transfer illegal aliens in their custody to the feds.
People Who Left the Ranks of Illegal Aliens in the Most Recent Year of Official Record*
183,000 Self-Deported
152,000 Amnestied (allowed to adjust to legal status within U.S.)
63,000 Removed by Federal Authorities
27,000 Died
456,000 Total

The welfare handouts must be cut off. Most aren't going home because they can live here quite well off the welfare that anchor babies bring in. With one baby they are given free housing, food stamps, WIC and free health care. With another baby they get more food stamps, more WIC. When those don't give them enough -- because they often have other adults living in the household, there are the generous food pantries that let them cart away all kinds of food.
