Because the law is too 'difficult' to enforce!
Employers who hire illegal workers are traitors and criminals. They belong in jail right along the criminals who enter the US illegally.
The only reason the politicians are even making a show is because too many Americans complained and are as mad as hell. When things settle down they'll go right back to their old ways for their big business buddies. Americans need to stay awake on this issue and not let it go away. We need to be a thorn in their sides and put the fear of God in them! By Voting Politicians out of office! They lie about the numbers too!
It looks as if at least the Maricopa County Attorney is working on closing those loopholes, but did you see that "The law applies only to hires made after Dec. 31, 2007." Maybe because they've been using E-Verify only since then? "Employers who don't use it face no punishment, but E-Verify strengthens their defense in court if they are prosecuted for knowingly hiring illegal workers. All 12 employers investigated by the Sheriff's Office this year told officers they were using E-Verify."
Looks like a lot of people are dragging their feet
Maricopa county is running out of money, their looking and asking for Bail Out money from the federal government. They say, they won't be able to pay the cops and fire fighters... Then What??? I guess it will be like the Old West! People are already complaing that the cops don't show up when called on crimes comitted by illegal aliens outside Phoenix in a 50 mile radius.

I live in Maricopa County-------and, I can attest to far fewer illegal aliens here compared to 18 months ago
I live in Maricopa County too. You're right there are fewer illegal aliens but they didn't go home they went to other states where the fire is not so hot. That still doesn't cure the problem as the country as a whole. I hope you and I are on the same page. I don't want to have to fight for my country on a daily basis. I'd rather be doing something else but right now there's nothing is more important.

No link handy but quite a few Mexican nationals (legal as well as illegal) have returned home
