State Rep. Leo Berman ramped up his support today for a proposal that would challenge the concept of birthright citizenship for U.S.-born children of illegal immigrants with the hopes that passage of such a measure would trigger a federal lawsuit.

Speaking to a group of about 20 members of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps., Berman said if his proposal to prohibit automatic citizenship for U.S.-born children of undocumented immigrants passes it would undoubtedly spark a court fight that he hopes lands in the U.S. Supreme Court.

Texas Politics: Berman: 14th Amendment does not "apply to foreigners."

I think the majority of tax paying Americans would love to see it get to the Supreme court. We have suffered the abuse of the 14th Amendment long enough. None of the foreign nationals who continue to abuse and benefit from this amendment are descendants of slaves.

And no being the anchors of modern day illegal alien slaves who suppress American wages does not qualify . . . .

Sorry, but I think it's long overdue. The concept that all you have to do is get your butt over the fence before you drop your baby is ridiculous. And then they use these children as an excuse to try to stop the deportation of the parents. It is an insane process which basically leaves us powerless to remove a large part of the illegal population. If you are illegal, and you have children here, your child should also be considered an illegal resident. Sorry if any of you think that's harsh, but at this point I am nearing the end of my rope and I think it's time to act and act with conviction. There is no excuse for millions of Americans to be out of work while just up the street there is a crew of 100 illegals working on a housing complex. It's time to remove the constraints placed on our law enforcement and allow proper action to be taken to reduce the illegal population in the United States. Be they Mexican, African, Canadian, etc..... they must be sent packing.

The law didn't apply to everyone in the first place - the amendment is quite clear on that.

Indeed, not even Native Americans children were considered citizens until 80 years ago.

Yes indeed.

I don't know how powerful his campaign will be but should it pick up momentum you know that La Raza, MEChA, MALDEF, the ACLU and every single illegal alien apologist will decry it as "racist".

I hope to see that day.

Since when do we make children pay for the crimes of the parents?

How are anchor babies being punished?

The illegal parents who enter the US illegally and intentionally will be able to deliver their children on US soil but will be denied US citizenship. Anchor babies will be granted the citizenship of their parents.

What's so bad about that?
