Many young lawbreakers become productive people worth helping
The American people are of two minds when it comes to illegal immigration. The volume of people pouring across the border is so huge as to constitute an invasion.
Americans want that rampant law-breaking stopped, and violators deported.
Except when they see, up close and personally, what deportations would do to earnest, hard-working people and their families. Then Americans want deportations blocked.
The West Virginia University Immigration Law Clinic is advocating for a man who has one foot in both categories.

Fourteen years ago, 15-year-old Ben Ricardo left Sultepec, Mexico, and sneaked into Arizona illegally.
But he has since worked, paid taxes, married, and had two children. Both 7-year-old Katie and 4-year-old Daniel were born with hearing impairments, and Daniel's is severe.

Born in a Morgantown hospital and therefore a U.S. citizen, Daniel has had access to specialists who are helping him.
But Ben and his wife allowed a sister-in-law, also an illegal immigrant, to live in their home, and she was caught shoplifting. Her crime led authorities to notice Ben Ricardo, and he is now scheduled for deportation by May 14 - unless he gets an exemption.

Ok, boys and girls it's multiple choice time, cast your votes by choosing one of the items listed below:

Are we supposed to feel sorry for Daniel aka Ben Ricardo the illegal alien criminal because:

(a) he's been in America illegally for 15 years and allegedly paying taxes with stolen or false documents;

(b) are we supposed to feel sorry for his hearing impaired "American" children?

(c) are we supposed to be heartbroken that it took 15 years for him to possibly be deported?
OR
(d) None of the above.

If they come here illegally, they chance being caught, detained, and deported.

And IMO, there is no time limit - I don't care what they have done. They could have come LEGALLY in the first place - and they would not have had to look over their shoulder all the time.

The U.S. Government will probably deport him.

If you talk to NTSB plane crash investigators, ER room surgeons, etc, this is how you are supposed to feel: You get involved in situations where innocent people suffer, but you have to be objective.

This is probably what authorities will do.

He should have been deported long before he had the opportunity to marry and father two children.

Part of the problem in dealing with illegal aliens is that if you give them an inch, they will take a mile. Every time, without fail. If we were dealing with a group of people who conducted themselves in an adult manner, maybe we could make an exception for this family because of the medical problems of the two children. But we can't, because if we do then from now til eternity every time we try to deport an illegal with children they will start jumping up and down, screaming, "But you let HIM stay!!!! You have to let me stay, too!". NCLR and Lulac will then become involved and none of them will ever be deported from that day on. So the bottom line is that this guy needs to go. He needs to go because if we let him stay, we will then have to let thousands of others stay, too.

The U.S. Governments picks and chooses who to deport. Mainly the illegals who do DUIs or involved in other major criminal activities are targeted.

People like the man in the article are "collateral" as they are discovered when others get caught. This article mentions how illegals tried to thwart the ICE and "collateral" arrests: http://pqasb.pqarchiver.com/chicagot...E&pqatl=google

The Chicago Tribune, I should have known. I'd read it but I just ate supper. Maybe later.

It's like surveys and other media and propaganda. It's all in how things are worded and portrayed.

You could do the same with a burglar or embezzler or maybe even a CEO. Write how they did commit a crime, maybe broke into homes while the owners were away but only did it to help their children have a better live, and otherwise were very nice people, paid taxes and now the law has caught up to them but a couple of the children are quite sick and it's going to be so so sad if the parents are arrested and sent to prison.

I think what turns so many Americans off of illegal immigrants is their NEEDINESS.

In the case of this story, where the illegal immigrant has two deaf children, what makes so many of us SO angry is that those deaf children's medical needs are being paid for by the American taxpayer. And that is infuriating.

I think Americans have a charitable spirit and we're certainly not heartless and cruel, but ENOUGH of the neediness already. It's like somebody's got an I.V. in our collective arms and is bleeding us dry.

It's as if the illegal immigrants just don't get it. They just don't get that Americans cannot rescue all of them. We do not have enough resources to allow them all to come here, have masses of needy children, and then expect us to educate them, feed them, house them, provide medical care for them, and then pay for their college. The illegals stand with their hands out, holding their empty cups before us.

I think we're all fed up with the huge S.O.S. call that Mexico and it's impoverished peasant population expects Americans to answer.
