It’s funny . . . . They can’t speak English while here; yet, they can’t speak Spanish when they are sent to Mexico. Notice that a photographer just happened to be present while this boy was being taunted.

Of course, this is another reason the children should remain here when their parents are deported.

Children feel like outsiders, have trouble mastering language, assignments

ZINAPECUARO, Mexico — Juan Maldonado is suffering the same culture shock as many other children of Mexican immigrants: He's out of place at school and hasn't mastered the language.

The difference? The U.S.-born Maldonado feels like an outsider in Mexico.

With their job prospects bleak and worried about bad influences on the street, Maldonado's parents sent the 15-year-old back from West Chicago to this central Mexican town last fall. Almost immediately, he was fighting with classmates who mocked his accented Spanish. He could barely read or write in the language, so his homework was impossible.

After two frustrating months, he dropped out. Now he works occasional hours at a factory that makes Christmas ornaments as he plans a return to the only country he has ever really known.

I blame the parents. They should not have come to the United States illegally and then have a child knowing that they may be deported in the future.

Uh oh, truth alert! Someone needs to call you a racist in order to discourage you from using common sense ever again.

Now, repeat after me, "US society/government is to blame"--let's not focus on why just blame the US. Doing that always works out well.

Every day was the same: feeling stupid," said Maldonado, in an interview in English because he requested it.
Where in the story did they say these U.S born children can't speak english?

+1 here.

Just that most adult illegal aliens have the emotional maturity of 8 YO children themselves.

Sadly, MANY children suffer for the misdeeds, bad decisions, and mistakes of their parents. You have to feel sorry for these kids, like any others caught up in the turmoil of their parents' lives.

Oh, that’s right -- we have ESL classes (for Spanish-speakers) in EVERY school in this country; we press 1 for English, and 2 for Spanish with most calls to businesses in this country; we have EVERYTHING printed in both English and Spanish -- because most illegal aliens and their offspring speak English. What on earth was I thinking?

It has also been documented that even at the high school level, children of illegal aliens, whether U.S.-born or not, still need ESL classes. I posted a thread several months ago; so if you want a link, you can search for it here.

How come it's never traumatic in the least for the children smuggled in from Mexico to go to schools in the USA but Mexican children going home to Mexico are taunted and teased?

Could it be that Americans are far nicer? What does this say for the people of Mexico? All the more reason to get some border enforcement, we don't need this kind of cruelty coming to our country.

If your synopsis is correct: that is a damning indictment of at least lower class Mexican culture.
