They expected it to cover nearly the entire 2,000-mile boundary within five years.
That construction could start within weeks, the executive director of the Homeland Security Department's Secure Border Initiative program told The Associated Press.
The first towers holding sensors, cameras and communications gear to detect drug smugglers and illegal immigrants will be built along 53 miles of Arizona's border with Mexico. Towers on the remaining 320 miles of the state's southern border will follow.
New Mexico will get virtual fencing next, followed by California and most of Texas, Project director Mark Borkowski said.
Let's hope they get this going ASAP!!

I heard on the news this morning that Obama has killed the REAL fence. If it's true, it didn't take him long...He's a joke...Matter of fact he could play the Joker in the next Batman movie.

We need razor wired double fencing AND the National Guard deployed throughout US-Mexican border for as long there is illegal migration entering through that area.

I agree. This will not even slow them down. I suspect a virtual fence is preferred by our crackpot government because it will not offend Mexico and it will be 'more humane'. Too bad we cannot patrol the border with 'virtual patriots'.

if amnesty is going to happen, i dont think it should happen until the border is secured and all foregin consulates in the US hand over their information on people seeking services. that way those lists can be cross references with other databases of people who havve been caught before, been released, deproted, or to see who is here legally or illegally.

This is a crock of crap. If we would enforce our own laws, hold employers strictly accountable, cut out the social services for illegal aliens, we would not even need these "fences".
