ATLANTA (AP) — Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue signed a divisive law Tuesday making the state only the second after Arizona to require prospective voters to prove their U.S. citizenship, a practice opponents say would keep the poor, elderly and minorities away from the ballot box.
To take effect, the law must obtain clearance from the U.S. Justice Department under the Voting Rights Act. And legal challenges appeared likely despite supporters who insist the measure would safeguard the integrity of the voting process.
"It's tantamount to a poll tax," said Elise Shore, regional counsel for the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund. She said the group was considering a legal challenge if the law clears the Justice Department.
F**k off MALDEF. Perhaps you enablers should spend your funds on assisting the poor Mexicans in Mexico so that less of them will decide to scramble across the border or overstay their visas.

The Georgia branch of Common Cause, which led a lawsuit against the photo ID, challenged that. Executive director Bill Bozarth said the new law seeks to address a problem that has not been proven to exist — that of non-citizens voting in elections in Georgia.
"It certainly has xenophobic overtones," Bozarth said.
Since when were non-citizens allowed to vote?

This is the best news all day! Every state should require people to prove their citizenship when they register. Heck, every person should be required to prove their identification at the voting center. Illegal aliens should NEVER be allowed to vote.
There are few things more important than preserving the integrity of the voting process. If this country had any sanity, every state should require proof of citizenship and photo IDs to show that everyone is indeed that person they claim to be. That just cuts to the chase and eliminates any possibility of one type of voter fraud. While we're at it any voting machines that don't have a paper trail back up system need to taken to the city dump.

No sane person could argue against this post... Your points are well stated and accurate. Only those interested in cheating the system worry about presenting a photo ID to vote. Oh wait illegals tend to be chronic cheats. Maybe thats why the proillegal crowd are so against ID checks for when you vote.
