The Associated Press: Vermont dairy farms count on illegal immigrants
Having owned a dairy I can honestly say this guy is full of it. A better reason would be that he can work them into the ground and they won't say a peep.
Work ethic? Fear of deportation allowing the owners to work these people into the ground is work ethic? Wrong choice of words. Will to work out of fear and desperation, yes, ethics no.

A pregnant Mexican woman still in knee-high rubber boots is visited by Nancy Sabin, a volunteer who finds dairy farm jobs for Hispanic workers.

Translation: Nancy Sabin, a criminal guilty of the treasonous act of aiding and abetting illegal aliens visits a pregnant illegal alien who is confident that her anchor baby will provide an extra income and various other benefits of being an illegal alien giving birth on American soil.

This is the open secret behind the black-and-white Holsteins, rolling hills and postcard images: Unable to attract local workers for the grueling job of milking cows and working the farm, Vermont, the nation's 14th-largest dairy state, props up its dairy industry with perhaps thousands of immigrant laborers, many of whom are in the U.S. illegally.
"Everyone knows some of these people are illegal," says Vermont Agriculture Secretary Roger Allbee. But, he says, "The system is broken. There's the need for labor."
|
Translation: Why should dairy farmers pay a book keeper to keep track of payroll and hire citizens to work at a living wage and pay for benefits? They already have plenty of cows, and hiring illegal aliens allows them to practically get their milk for free. It also pays me quite well to look the other way.
Quote:
Recognizing their dependence on these workers — whatever their status — Vermonters have worked out a system to protect the status quo.
In Burlington and Middlebury, police have policies in place not to bother Hispanics about immigration issues unless they're breaking the law.

Breaking and entering, and aiding and abetting illegal aliens is a crime. Yet the entire town is looking the other way and the secretary of agriculture and the keystone cops who have taken an oath to uphold the law are not doing their job? Wow, just wow . . .

And here in MI, nobody can find work. Hey, we could all revoke our citizenship and head to Vermont!

An entire community "milking it" so to speak. We've seen the ag sector do it here is S Cal too.
If you cannot make money without doing it illegally then you should be shut down.

Rich farmers making money off illegal immigrants. How quaint in VT. Same thing is happening every day in painting, construction, drywall, etc. The problem is that "everyone is doing it" so if one decides to follow the law, the competition will put you out of business due to their lower cost of using illegal labor. The government needs to step in and stop this across the board. The price of certain things would go up if only legal labor is used but the unseen cost of illegal labor would go down. Maybe the co-pays for an emergency room visit would be reduced....

Unless we enforce the law. What a unique idea.

Or the 10 hour wait as Illegals use it as their free primary health care provider.

Have never had to wait for 10 hours and I lived in Austin. Also while waiting on the E.R. you get bumped down the list in favour of people who have bigger problems. I wonder if the people having to wait the 10 hours are the ones using it as their primary health care provider.
