Theodore Roosevelt's ideas on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907.

'In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American. There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag. We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language. We have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.'

Theodore Roosevelt 1907

Beautiful patriotic words of wisdom from a true American.

Unfortunately, in today's society, believing in such could be considered 'politically incorrect'/'racist'/'xenophobic'/somehow 'discriminative'.

These words were uttered by Mr. Roosevelt 102 years ago. They still hold true to this day.

He stated that immigration is perfectly fine but all immigrants must assimilate, learn English, and become loyal to their new nation.

Illegal immigrants do not assimilate, do not know proper English, and are not loyal to the United States of America, except for our free government social programs. There is an enormous difference between legal and illegal immigration.

Sad but true. FDR, Eisenhower and Truman all had the same basic views.

Legal =good Illegal = bad It should be the same today.

All 3 had an ilegal alien deportation plan. Today's economy demands the same thing. Deport, Deport and Deport .

Agreed..

Teddy Roosevelt was a true American President from a time when Presidents and politicans, for the most part, held American Citizens' best interests at heart..

Yes, nowadays folks like the ACLU would probably sue him and be outraged over this wording..

Agreed Bipolar. He was a true American president. He was worried about the people, not his next election cycle.

Today's AACLU would be tarred and feathered back then. They'd be run out of town on a rail.
