I was really angered by the way these two women were treated. I am still praying we can reach a negotiation with K Korea and have them home ASAP. This is trully inhumane but what can you expect from a communist country like N Korea? I wish them well.

From what I understand there was no intent on the part of these two women to enter NK, it was one accidently. The story they were working on was about China an had nothing to do with NK. NOW NK is holding them as some kind of bargaining chip.
It seems to be unclear whether they actually crossed the border, or not. In any case, I suspect anytime a foreigner is anywhere near their border North Korea will pick them up, and claim an illegal crossing if they think they can get away with it. What they want is a bargaining chip, and this time they hit the jackpot with 2 Americans.
What about their guide? Why didn't he warn them they were so near the border?

As much as I disagree with this law, and U.S. immigration law. This serves as an example why cultural differences and motives should be taken into consideration when applying punishment. Had the N.K. government had any sense, they should have just informed the two women that they were on N.K. territory and that they needed to turn back. Unless of course, N.K. had reasons to believe that these two women were spies.

I agree, I was only reporting what I had heard reported on The View, the sister to one of the prisoners, Lisa Ling (I think) used to be on The View so its often discussed there.
Why be right at the edge of South and North Korea anyway? That was taking huge risks. Sounds like it definitely had to do with NK's goings on. They were reporting on trafficing - was that human trafficing?

Those women were in the country illegally, but they were NOT immigrants. They were only there for temporary news purposes, not to move in.
Had they indeed been on the wrong side of the border, they should have known the consequences would not be favorable for them.
It's too bad, but they were very, very wrong.
Now if we were that stringent on entry laws, we'd be doing well and doing it WITHOUT illegals.
I'd be happy with some kind of a happy medium. We're the polar opposite of N. Korea, they have the tightest border and immigration laws and we have essentially no border and no immigration laws. Here we have an almost total free-for-all when it comes to borders, almost a "come and take it" sign posted for all to see.
NOW NK is holding them as some kind of bargaining chip.
Imagine if we were to turn around and do something like that??? 30 plus million bargaining chips. We should be able to get a thing or two from all those.
