Listen to Obama speak at the conclusion of their meeting. The fact that he refers to illegal aliens as “undocumented” clearly indicates he does not consider them to be lawbreakers.

Notice, they aren’t claiming there is no legal way for low-skilled workers to legally enter this country to work. They are only stating there is no process for them to stay. Why do so-called “guest workers” need an option to “permanently” remain in this country?

Quote:
Finally, the much-expected meeting on immigration reform between President Barack Obama and lawmakers from both parties took place Thursday. Participating legislators said the president promised to put his energy into moving forward right away. The response from some reform advocates was “Game On!” But the various sides have already started drawing lines in the sand – spelling out what they will and will not accept.

President Obama Thursday reportedly cautioned members of Congress against calling a legalization program “amnesty,” despite anti-immigrant efforts to brand it that way.

First introduced in 2001, and since then kept alive by the organizing and advocacy efforts of young undocumented immigrants nationwide, the DREAM Act has met opposition from members of Congress who protest it gives a ‘free ride’ to undocumented youth.

President Obama has expressed support for a workplace enforcement program that would target employers who knowingly hire undocumented workers to circumvent fair wage and hour laws. Unfortunately, this part of the worker enforcement equation is increasingly complicated, and there are few models that have been shown to work. Nevertheless, it’s likely the administration will face some pressure to develop a system to screen potential employees’ work authorization.

Questions abound about how to ensure the future flow of legal immigrants –skilled and unskilled– into the country. There is currently no way for unskilled low-wage immigrants to legally enter the U.S. with the option to stay here: the existing guest worker program is small, difficult to enforce, and only provides seasonal agricultural workers to a limited number of businesses.

How is Arizona and Oklahoma able start working and be able to do it as a State, but our federal Government can't get with the program??

Seems there are things that can work, and then those things from history that we just can't seem to learn from. Like it didn't happen, so we will try it again.

Possibly because Arizona and now Oklahoma are Libertarian states vs. Calif, Wash DC, etc. being 'liberal' AKA Un-American places?

Because it's a chess game right now and even the President knows if all States were under the same laws it would get ugly fast. Those States enacted laws that moved out masses of Illegals to other States but if the other States joined forces to oust the Illegals the Pro-Latino/Pro-Illegal crowds would put up such a stink that liberals would be in fear of losing votes the next round and possibly losing power to those dreaded Repubs again.

A chess game of how much they can get away with NOT doing this term and possibly the next.

While I agree California has a rather tainted reputation, I feel it is important to remember that it really was California that led the way in fighting illegal immigration.

Prop 187 was generated, proposed, written and finally ( due to the efforts of those "un-American" types here in California qualified for the ballot because some people worked their asses off to make it happen....and it did....only to be sold out by Davis and 1 judge ( Mariana Pfelzer ?)

But hell.....we tried.

What was The libertarian policy during the Harry Browne era ?

Open Borders and legalized drugs ?

While California has given the USA the likes of Pelosi,Boxer, and Arnie, I also think that this state also was in the forefront in regards to waking up the rest of the states as to the ramifications and costs associated with illegals.

But,what the hell,we are an easy target because all of the rest of the states have solved their illegal immigration problems and California is the only state left to suffer with budgetary concerns related to illegal immigration....

Many thanks to the likes of John McCain, Janet Napolitano, Harry Reid, Bill Richardson,Charlie Schumer, Barney Frank,Bill And Hillary, and so many more from all of the remaining 49 states for all that You folks have done to guaranee America's sovereignty and Independence.

As a native Californian, I stand i awe of Your efforts....

I do not want any response to this post I do not want to discuss this issue....

Thank You for allowing me to vent.

BL: my comment about California was directed at the so-called 'liberals' there who would rather sell out their fellow Americans in favor of cheap illegal labor------------not folks like you who are still true Americans.

I lived in Calif till 1989 then left for Arizona...........long story but it worked out in the end for me

Hopefully Obama is just making empty promises to the illegals like he made to Americans when he promised he would create 5 million jobs for Americans.

Hopefully those 5 million jobs aren't going to be for the many who will soon be arriving to get in on this amnesty -- and we know that is what will happen and is happening. Whenever amnesty is mentioned, you get a big rush of people coming over the border.

Apparently the left wing Democrats and Maobama think that it makes wonderful sense to create 5 million new "green" jobs even if we lose 10-15 million old "non green" jobs? What a Prez. I say Maobama is a one term Prez unless he can amnesty the 20 plus million illegal mexican, future Democratic voters if amnestied, in time for 2012. For all of the former Obama supporters who are becoming appalled at Obama's leftist quirky legislation and massive spending and massive deficits and massive proposed tax increases, a new Democratic voter bloc of newly amnestied illegal mexican Democratic voters would more than make up for any defections. What the hell if amnestying 20 plus million illegal mexicans subverts the voting process and ruins America.

*Green* and pretending to be pro-environment but also planning to greatly increase the population of the USA makes no sense at all.
