Gig Conaughton, reporter for the North County Times, Escondido, California, wrote a piece exposing the horrific costs of illegal aliens in one county.

Conaughton wrote, "A county-commissioned study estimated that illegal immigrants directly cost the county of San Diego and taxpayers $101 million last year, and indirectly cost an additional $155 million in unpaid medical care. Public school costs and a myriad of social-services increase the actual costs, but are not included in the count."

Illegal alien "migrants" cost the county roughly $75 million in criminal justice costs, such as jailing, prosecuting and public defender efforts – and $26 million in health, social and other costs. Experts said the estimates proved very conservative. Please remember, our laws only require that we provide emergency medical services.

Conaughton wrote, "Spokesman Horn, who pushed hard for the study to be done, said Friday that he planned to use the report to lobby the federal government, through Rep. Brian Bilbray, R-Solana Beach, for help. He also said he thought the $255 million figure was too low – in part because he thought it underestimated the illegal immigrant population – and did not take education costs into account."

This is happening in cities all across the South and Southwest. Why is it that the main stream media never talks about the huge costs of illegal immigration? All I ever see on TV are these stupid human interests stories about some "struggling" illegal family. If you have all your housing, food, healthcare, and education paid for by the government, it is called living the good life. There are American families who are really struggling and the government is helping people who are not suppose to be here.

Agreed and therein lies the problem. One positive that I've recently noticed is that neither Obama nor Durbin have said a word about the potential passage of the so called DREAMAct. The only idiots pushing that issue front and center are the illegal aliens and ethnocentric groups who would benefit from such an insane act of treason.

Note too that our collection of (probable) DREAMIes here on City Data seem a 'tad' more scared since Obama was inaugurated----------judging by their edgier rhetoric?

So you're blaming the immigrants and not the socialist programs, interesting...

Did you expect those people to say: "Free money? No thanks!"

If I were an illegal alien, in the US (or an illegal squatter anywhere else), I would be paralyzed with fear. There is not a country left that they can flee to and consider themselves safe from deportation. It appears that the citizens of every country are suffering from the failure of the unorganized grand scheme of a globalized economy.

As for their fear of Obama, they should be very afraid. His virtual public silence with regard to their fate tells me that the plan to rid this nation of those here illegally and in hiding is already in place. That lawsuit that they so arrogantly and delusionally put forth naming him, IMHO has pretty much sealed their fate.

Let the games begin . . . . .

I do blame the illegal aliens for being here: most of them are indeed criminals and need to be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

A man is walking down the street. He just left the ATM and had a pocket full of cash--planning on taking his girl out to dinner and a show. All of a sudden, two guys jump out of the alley, take him down, and roll him for every dime he has.

But you can't blame the guys that rolled him--you should blame the guy that had the audacity to walk down the street with his pockets full cash.

How could we expect those people to say to themselves, "Free money? No thanks!"

Welcome to the kindergarten called America. The insult word of the week is "illegal". (Last week it was "poopiehead".) Use it while it's in fashion.

"ArizonaBear is illegal! ArizonaBear is illegal! Hahahaha..."

There is a rational foundation behind natural law, which is what I believe in: individual human self-ownership, property rights, and protection from theft. The vast majority of people want to live in a civilized society, which brings about tremendous benefits for everyone, and are willing to punish theft to make this possible, because a thief who steals from your neighbor and isn't punished might steal from you next. (Unfortunately the thieves found a loophole: government. The overwhelming majority of theft that takes place in our society is done through government force, which is bad no matter who it harms or benefits, "citizen" or not!)

There is nothing rational about immigration law, on the other hand. "My ancestors could come here, but you can't." Property rights are individual, and they can be shared through explicit agreements, but not through fictitious concepts like nations. Clearly enough people in America are willing to do business with those immigrants, whether they kiss enough bureaucrat butt to make themselves "legal" or not!

Absolutely! It boils down to little things called honesty and integrity. Speaking of ATM’s. . . . I recently pulled up to an ATM in Northern Virginia, and lo and behold, someone had left their card in the machine, and it was still active. Now I could have taken advantage of the situation and helped myself to his funds. After all, he did drive away without finalizing his transaction; and only a fool would say, “Free money? No thanks!”
