Clackamas County PD being sued for allegedly failing to report illegal alien to ICE (Representatives, visas)

OREGON CITY -- The family of a Texas girl murdered in 2007 is suing Clackamas County, claiming law enforcement officers knew her killer illegally entered the United States and failed to report him to immigration authorities.

The estate of Dani Countryman is seeking $3.5 million in damages, according to the Clackamas County Circuit Court filing.

The lawsuit claims that a Clackamas County probation officer and unnamed sheriff's office employees failed to report Rivera Gamboa to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

this is a tragedy. alex and gabe dont sound like very upstanding in dividuals. 5 years for the guy who raped her seems lenient, especially since she died. but thats been decided by the courts already.

the larger question is... were there policies in place for handling cases involving illegals? what is the standard procedure? and whose job was it to follow said policies and procedures.

if none existed at the time, i dont think they much of a case agianst the county.

This is a common occurrence throughout this country. Police departments are so afraid of being sued by MALDEF or the ACLU that they have been handling suspected illegals with kid gloves. This clearly illustrates why we need a federal law mandating that immigration status be checked for everyone arrested. If they are illegal aliens, they should be denied bail, period.

If they are deported, we need to secure our borders to prevent these miscreants from returning. I’m sick of hearing about citizens being raped and murdered by illegals who had prior arrest records and released, prior ignored deportation orders, 10 deportations, etc. Enough!

and im being serious. how would htat happen? who would do that? i dont think there would be any credible challenge to enforcing a federal policy to detain all suspects in the country illegally.

of course i think the focus would be on violent offenders and not someone caught riding their bike without a helmet. we are working with limited resources after all.

If they are here illegally and arrested, be it for riding without a helmet, DUI, or jaywalking, they should be detained and deported. Why should the police release someone who is in this country illegally?

because that makes no sense logistically or economically. the jails would essentially be filled with minor offenders. we do not have the resources for that. there would have to be a multi-tiered system at best. my community is more invested in getting drug dealers and rapist of the streets. the jaywalkers, illegal or not, arent that much of a concern. maybe in mayberry or where ever everyone else lives, but we got bigger fish to fry in the hood.

We need to implement a program whereby illegals can be deported within 48 hours from their apprehension for minor offenses. They knew when they entered this country illegally or overstayed visas they were in violation of our immigration laws. Therefore, they should not be entitled to a hearing. However, we must secure the border to prevent them from returning. It can be done.
