I agree. This is a truly awful idea.We would find ourselves endlessly pouring billions into the place with nothing to show for it. Our education and health systems would be in total collapse in about 6 months. As for the idea that we would somehow be able to control Mexican criminals, we can't even control our own gangs! There are large swaths of major cities that are no-go zones now. Why add even more gangs and drug dealers to the mix?

All true. Joking aside, this would truly be a nightmare scenario for the future of American society. It would magnify and exacerbate ALL the current problems regarding illegal immigration and all the anger and xenophobia and ethnic squabbling related to it....while providing absolutely NO benefit whatsoever to the average, middle class American. It would ensure that my own frequent predictions of a 'rougher, tougher, more contentious future' for America come true not in DECADES...but in MONTHS. It would truly be the last gasp of any chance of 'The American Dream', and the shock waves (almost all negative) would be heard around the world. To add insult to injury, it would be certain to EXACERBATE the traditional mistrust of the Mexican people of the "Gringo colossus" next door. BAD plan....BAD idea. You think people are resentful because 'the gringo took part of our land'? Wait until the gringo takes ALL of their land....and this is how it would be seen, and this is how things would be 'blamed', every time ANYTHING went wrong..from now until the 'end of time'. The mere thought of the resulting ethnic hatred and social unrest from that fact ALONE is enough to make one's 'blood run cold'...as well as what the "remedy" for it would be.(Hint: it would involve MASSIVE cut-backs in our freedoms....for our "own good").

Let's hope and pray that this idea remains where it belongs....in the realm of science fiction.

The most ridiculous solution ever.

Just seal the dang border already and ship back who's not supposed to be here.

Mexico is a sovereign nation. Merge the two nations?! Insane!

And it's explained as if all around it's the "best solution and a win-win for both sides".

Bananas!

Not to mention -- the drug cartels, who would control this country just as they now control Mexico. Heads would roll. . . . literally.

This is exactly the situation going on in the middle east. The Mexican Indians would become the Kurds of that scenerio, which they pretty much are already S of the border.

Unlike Mexico: many Americans also have guns----------and, will use them against probable narcos.

The problem is, if the northern states of Mexico became part of the US, as soon as word got out that it was in the works, the rest of Mexico would migrate to those states. Just like whenever amnesty is brought up here, we get a flood of illegal aliens.

Good point.

What would influence things SoB would be how bad the damage was after their (possible) civil war; if it were a skirmish, Mexico would probably remain intact---------if something comparable to Yugoslavia 15 years ago.................

It's a terrible idea. Look at how the Atzlaners are still whining and moaning that we "stole" (we bought) some northern territory way back when. That land was mostly uninhabited territory --- not states of Mexico.
