The great irony is, all of the immigrants who came here through Ellis Island were fleeing for the same reason - they didn't want to improve their countries. So there most viable option was to come to the U.S. Some could argue they were too cowardly to fight and change conditions in their respective country's, others might argue that fighting wasn't an option either. Of course I'm not comparing legal immigration to the illegal immigration currently going on, what I am comparing is the reasons both groups of immigrants came to the U.S in the first place.
While You're making comparisons could You show me some comparisons of the costs associated the earlier LEGAL immigrants in regards to education, medical benefits, or any form of special treatment as compared to the current 12-30 million illegal aliens that we are inundated with today?
Just what demands did they make ?
No, the Mexicans and other illegals need to grow a pair and work for improvement in their countries. They’re too cowardly to fight for change, yet expect us to be the giant teat for them to suck. How pathetic is that?
Most immigrants would prefer to stay in their native lands if living conditions there greatly improved.
Except of course the living conditions they could improve as individuals -- like staying in school, delaying child bearing until they can afford their children - which they could do if they stayed in school, studied hard, waited for a job and obtained some job skills.
Improved conditions for too many mean USA taxpayer provided free lunch, food stamps, WIC, Medicaid, housing, and so on and so on because it costs a lot to live in the USA and not even illegals can support their large families on less than minimum wages and no job benefits like health care insurance in this country.
Uhm that would be the prisoners convicted and jailed for their crimes.
I am innocent! I was framed! Its not my fault!
Illegals and those who support them make similar statements.
Its not fair, its too hard to get a legal VISA.
If they would give us a VISA we wouldn't need to commit all the crimes associated with our life styles.
Anyone against illegal immigration is racist.
Anyone opposed to amnesty ie. rewarding illegals and their criminal behavior is a racist.
How many inmates claim they are in jail due to racist courts?
How many criminals in prison claim they were forced into crime due to society not giving them a fair chance?
probably 90%.
Not at all unlike the illegals and their supporters excuses.

Yet the differences are huge. Assimilation and staying off Govt services being the biggest. Not so will today's Illegal Immigrants, they come with a hand out and a list of demands.

Others have already covered most bases. However, rather than comparing the motives of illegals to “immigrants,” perhaps a better analogy would be to compare them to the blacks in this country who fought for their rights against seemingly insurmountable foes. Why didn’t they simply cross the border to Mexico to escape injustices here? Of course, that would have been futile, because they would have received even worse treatment there.
Unlike Mexican illegals and others, blacks fought and died for their rights – in their own country. Perhaps these illegals should follow suit.

Very succinct post....well-stated....and perfectly reasonable. No one's saying the poor of Mexico don't have problems...what we're objecting to is their attempting to solve their problems by coming here, and adding to OUR problems. Rather than offering to "change" our society, (whether we like it or not), a better idea would be to get together and change their OWN society. I'm sure we'd be glad to help, should they feel the need to ask.

From the marches with the mex flags it appears they would rather come forward with their list demands here?
I blame the corrupt mexcian governhamnt who doies nothing.
Oh, they are doing plenty. They are encouraging the one way illegal immigration into our Country because their economy is in the toilet due the lack of remittances sucked out of ours.
