WASHINGTON (AFP) – Some 700 million people worldwide, or more than all the adults of North and South America combined, think the grass is greener on the other side of the fence and want to permanently move to another country, a poll showed Tuesday.
The most popular destination was the United States, where nearly a quarter of the 700 million -- around 165 million people -- said they would like to settle.

It also confirms one of my feelings...,That,in spite of the negative portrayal of the USA that is spewed out daily basis by a certain collective of intellectual dwarves, it would seem that the good ol' USA is still the number one choice to live.
Of course they want to come here. Where else can one realize the coveted American Dream, with all of its bells and whistles? We even have foreign women flying here for the expressed purpose of giving birth to a U.S. citizen.
What do I care if people worldwide want to switch countries ?...let them!...."YOU switch with HIM....YOU switch with HER....YOU, over there..switch with HIM...you three guys..switch with HIM", etc.etc etc. As long as they switch with each other, I don't care. But I don't want to switch with anybody, and if anyone wants to come here, I insist they go through the proper procedures.
(Sorry about the humor....reminds me of the old concentration-camp joke about "Good news, men! Today, we're going to have a CHANGE of UNDERWEAR !")
Well, worlwide people find the U.S. attractive because the U.S. population is multiracial and made by people from all over the world...
For example:
#1 If an Asian Israeli Jew wants to get out of Israel... USA is a good choice because there are millions of Jews in the U.S.
#2 If an African wants to relocate outside Africa, the U.S is also a good choice because we have the largest and most hugemongous African population among developed nations. So, he wouldn´t feel isolated here; he can make friends and find a job as long as he is legal...and who knows, he might marry a U.S. national of Irish ancestry, and their son could become a U.S. president in the future (Obama).
Now, if the African immigrant wants to relocate to a developed white country such as Canada, New Zealand, Australia, or any European nation, he would propably feel bad because he might face discrimination.
People always prefer the U.S. because they can find a little piece of their own culture here (Jews, Africans, Mexicans, British, etc), and that makes the transition (migration & adaptation process) easier.
The same applies to Chinese, Mexicans, Russians, Europeans, etc etc.... any nationality.
Also, worldwide people are constantly watching U.S. movies... after watching many cool movies (who are just fantasy and do not portray the real U.S.) people are brainwashed and they suddenly want to relocate or have the desire to live in that fantastic U.S. they see in the movies...(Fast and the Furios, Bad Boys, Friends>>>> Is life in NYC similar to the TV Show Friends?>> I bet New Yorkers never spent that much time in a coffee shop having fun)

Actually, I think it has little to do with an immigrant feeling at home here because we are multi-racial/ethnic. I think it has to do more with the economic and educational opportunities here. They think everyone lives in prosperity here. Nothing could be further from the truth but I suppose compared to their homelands even a low income person or one living in poverty is still better than where they are. Add to that that we are a huge welfare country and I think these things contribute more to their desire to come here. Of course, those who don't live in a democracy will naturally find our country more desirable than their homeland also.

You can't "Cherry Pick" people that are coming in illegally, they sort of go around the whole selection process. So really this article has nothing to do with illegals at all, except to corroborate why they want to come here even more.

I think the 'racial / ethnic / cultural' angle is a little bit overblown as well. This new 'multiculturalism' we're supposed to have here is a relatively recent thing...MOSTLY dreamed up by people who are eating regularly, able to speak freely, and face no immediate threat of oppression.
You don't come here because you want to be among your 'own kind'...you come here for prosperity and freedom. Prosperity and freedom exist because the SYSTEM works.... Once you GET here, you may then seek out those of your culture, if you're so inclined. The irony is, though, that if you want to REALLY be immersed in your own culture, you'd be better off back home. But that's not too appealing, because 'back home' is where you left...because things back there 'didn't work'.
America 'is what it is' because its system works..not because of race, or because of a variety of cultures. If the system works, then too many changes, for too many reasons, could put that system in jeopardy...at which point, the system we HAD would no longer exist, and we'd be just like the places these folks left.
Our social system, our form of government, and our way of life, in America is our common 'culture'. Anyone who expects to participate here may do well to consider that fact. If a way of life, or an attitude, or a set of values didn't work 'back home', there's a good chance it won't work here, either.

Are you going to deny that recruiting of workers is being done? Yes you can cherry pick -- you can send the recruiter into Mexico to entice people to have themselves locked up in an unventilated semi-trailer or you can go further south and recruit.
Most illegals don't simply get smuggled in and start filling out job applications or randomly knocking on doors looking for work. They have a destination and often already have a job upon arriving because the recruiter told them where to go or even arranged the transportation for them.
The other way that cherry picking can be done is that when you put the word out that you are wanting to hire some illegals, you can bypass the Mexicans who will ask $4 or $5 an hour and select those who will work for $2 or $3 an hour.
With unlimited massive completely uncontrolled immigration, there's no telling how cheap the workers could be. And cheap labor is what it's all about.
I wonder if it's legal yet to have slaves -- then you don't have to pay anything.
