Looks like Obama will keep his promise to pursue a legal path for undocumented immigrants.

Quote:
Laying out the administration's bottom line, Napolitano said officials will argue for a "three-legged stool" that includes tougher enforcement laws against illegal immigrants and employers who hire them, a streamlined system for legal immigration, and a "tough and fair pathway to earned legal status."
White House prepares to press for overhaul of U.S. immigration system - The Denver Post

But Sen. John Cornyn of Texas, the top Republican on the Judiciary subcommittee on immigration, agreed it was time to open the immigration debate.
"My commitment to immigration reform has not changed," he said in a statement Friday. "I am interested in seeing a proposal sooner rather than later from President Obama."

Illegal immigrants will have to pay a fine and pay back taxes. We are in an economic crisis. To the government it would be better to get more money from illegal immigrants than to use up financial resources to deport.

Under the administration's plan, illegal immigrants who hope to gain legal status would have to register, pay fines and all taxes they owe, pass a criminal background check and learn English.

And just how it is going to be determined what back taxes are owed? You think that those working under the table have kept records on their earnings or would even disclose them when there are no records on it?

No, in the long run deporting them would be more economically feasible especially with implementing e-verify they will self-deport so where are these huge costs involved in getting them removed from our country? No more free education, healthcare and they should take their anchors with them since they are so into family values and all. That would free up a lot of tax dollars right there. Decreasing our population will increase our energy and natural resources availability for Americans. Doctors and teachers won't be stressed to the max caring for and teaching that additional population. Jobs would free up for Americans. This is just the tip of the iceburg.

Fines, learn English, PROVE they've been working, prove they have a job. Ya sure, that will be about 200 thousand people max.

That's a good start, but what about those that are still going to hire the cheaper, easily exploited illegal that is still here on our American soil and those coming over to work for the newly legal immigrants??

What heavy penalties are the employers going to face to eliminate the incentives for new to come and old to stay??

Time for some Ike style random raids and deportations, they'll be scampering for the border and it won't cost us a cent.

Our government would receive just as much money, and probably more, by getting unemployed Americans back into our country's workforce.

If illegal aliens haven't paid their income taxes, then that is income tax evasion, which is a felony.

That steaming pile of Obama amnesty that you're talking about will be attempted between now and next Nov's elections, because the Dim's are expected to lose their super majorities in the House and Senate in next Nov's elections, so the Dims must pass Obama's steaming pile of amnesty before that happens or forget about it. There doesn't appear to be enough support in Congress now for Obama's steaming pile of amnesty and when, as expected, the hispandering Dims loose those super majorities in Congress, Obama's steaming pile of amnesty will be put in the dust bin.

Ah, Obama is going to 'pay up' for his hispandering.

Instead of a 'three legged stool' I'd much rather see a secure border, strickter penalties for hiring illegals and mass deportations. Of course, there's not a lot of votes to be gottent that way, is there?
