California had 14,570 fewer births in 2008 than in the previous year, a 2.6 percent drop that surprised demographers with its size. It was the first annual decline in births since 2001, when the state was last mired in a recession. While the economy is one likely cause, the migration of young Latinas in their prime childbearing years out of California, and a slowdown of illegal immigration, are ongoing factors that could cut into the state's future population growth if they continue.
RECESSION AND LESS ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION SLOWS BIRTH RATE - POST SCRIPTS (http://www.norcalblogs.com/post_scripts/2009/07/recession-and-less-illega.html - broken link)
GOOD! We don't have water, infrastructure or health services for the rate of growth we have now anyway. One other thread shows where Mexcio is wigging out because they can't handle their returning population.
Interesting where said 'young Latina's are headed to. If here illegally, they may indeed be returning home to Mexico/Central America. Or, said Latina's may be really starting to use birth control since things here are getting ugly--------and, not just economically.
look at locust. They eat up all of the crops and then when the fields are empty they just move on to another field....California has been know for being the first field for years.

I find that hard to believe because until they cut welfare handouts for anchor babies, there is no incentive to stop having baby after baby. Each baby born here they think gives them more right to stay here forever and each baby brings in more food stamps, more WIC and costs them nothing to have.

Or else 2.6% are actually paying their own way.
Here in Arizona; judging by the dramatic drop in Hispanic kids in the local schools since 2007...........they are clearly headed somewhere with their parents. Also; quite a few stores that targeted Hispanics (Food City, etc.) that have been here for decades are shutting their doors. Remember that Americans if Mexican, etc. background tend to shop at 'Anglo' themed places like Frys (Kroger), Safeway, Costco, etc. Hell; there is far less Spanish heard in the local Wal-Marts as well.

Lucky you. Here in So. Cal. Spanish is all we hear anymore. I feel like I am living in Mexico.
