The group set out Friday to begin a 1,500 mile journey they are calling the "Trail of Dreams," from Miami's historic Freedom Tower to Washington, D.C. The goal is to raise support for legislation that would include a path to citizenship for eligible illegal immigrants.
They expect students and other supporters to join them along the way and plan to arrive in the capital May 1, which has become a day of immigrant rights rallies in recent years.
Rodriguez, president of the student government at Miami Dade College's InterAmerican Campus, and the others say they were inspired by the migrant farmworkers who walked the length of California in the 1970s, and by the civil rights marches of the 1960s.
"These wonderful students believe so much in the dream — in the American dream," she said. "They really believe they can make a difference and are willing to put their lives on the line, but they are going to be walking through some very unfriendly places for immigrants."
"I think sometimes I should go back to Colombia and try to help there," he said. "But it's not my country anymore. This is my home. This is where I can help."

Sounds like a great opportunity to round up some illegals and send them home! If only our government had the......
If I had a warrant for my arrest for lets say something as simple as parking tickets, would I flaunt it. No, I be arrested. Simply put, all illegals have a warrant hanging over them. THEY'RE HERE ILLEGALLY! Yet they can march in the streets as heros.
I miss America! Thanks DC for selling my country.

I love how they compare themselves to the "farmworker movement of the 60's" when the fact is that Cesar Chavez was against Illegal Immigration..

I love it when you guys try to exploit Cesar Chavez. He was against scabs and strike breakers. He wasn't "pro illegal immigration", of which there are very few even on here, but he wasn't "anti illegal immigration" in the way you guys are.
That is to say he didn't hate illegals, blame the world's problems on illegals, and wear Border Patrol caps while sitting on lawn chairs and stuff. The farmers were using Teamsters and Mexican citizens to try and sidestep his strike. For that reason, he and the UFW would try to keep the Mexican citizens from going to work.
Stop twisting his legacy for your angry agenda.

Illegal aliens are lawbreakers who have no legal right to be in this country. That's enough of a reason for me to be opposed to illegal immigration. Do I need any other reason?
Nobody on this forum is blaming all of the world's problems on illegal aliens. That's just you making a very ignorant comment.
"Angry agenda'? So ipeople who are opposed to lawbreaking have an "angry agenda"? Well, I'm opposed to bank robbery, burglary, rape, murder, armed robbery, car theft, assault and battery, vandalism, etc. So according to you, I guess I have an "angry agenda" against lawbreaking.

So objection to illegal immigration equates to hatred? Who blames illegal aliens for ALL the world's problems? Do you just make up this stuff as you go along? People wearing BP caps while sitting on law chairs? Who are they? Oh the horror!!!

They should take a detour and march right back to where they came from and demand change at home. It would also help if they educated themselves about having more kids then they can take care of,having ridiculous expectations of entitlements and learn how to respect another county's laws.
