Crazy... Why can illigal vote?
I thought they cant....
GOD I wish this wasn't true but it is (although I don't know to what extent.)
My wife is an immigrant (and at the time of this incident did not have a green card... BTW she has always been a legal resident). When we lived in CA she was on campus and someone had a petition to sign. As you may or may not know, only registered voters are allowed to sign petitions for an initiative. When he asked her if she was registered and she said "no"... unbeknownst to her, he then registered her to vote! I only learned of this when a "voter registration" card arrived in the mail a few weeks later! Well, we explained what happened and immediately cancelled the registration (I was scared it would mess up the Green Card stuff)... I always wonder what would have happened if she had just decided to vote?
Granted , my wife is white (Russian immigrant), she had a (non-citizen) social security number, and has worked hard so she has no accent, so people would be less suspicious, but most of this was done by paperwork only!
Because of the SSN requirement, I don't think this would allow an illegal to vote, but it certainly has the potential to allow legal non-citizens to vote.
Interesting about your wife's experience. The state site also says that a person does not have to be registered to vote to register others. Illegals do buy SSN's and other documents of course. Illegals voted in the last presidential election, so I heard.
Also, rules say if a person has no driver's license or social security number they will be given a unique ID number, then provide identification when voting.
I can't see why illegals could not vote with this rule.
I am not saying that it isn't true (see my post above) but I have yet to see any real evidence of people getting caught in large numbers (aside from a handful of isolated incidents), or any evidence of people trying to "sign up" illegals (I know EVERY election that one guy calls up talk radio and says he "saw democrats signing up homeless people to vote in exchange for a beer"... never been proven though and I think it's a strategic ruse.)
The potential definitely exists, I just don't think it is the big "election fraud" that initially comes to mind.
Actually when Loretta Sanchez took Robert Dornan's seat, the House investigation documented hundreds of illegals that voted for Sanchez. It happens all the time.

Why does this not surprise me in the least...WHAT A MESS!
