The president calls the state's tough legislation a wake-up call for the federal government to overhaul the nation's immigration system. White House officials fear a patchwork of state laws that don't resolve border issues or deal with the 11 million people in the U.S. illegally.

A tough new Arizona law aimed at rooting out illegal immigrants is reshaping the arguments used by the Obama administration and congressional Democrats in support of a sweeping overhaul of the nation's immigration system.
White House officials say the Arizona law underscores an untenable void in federal immigration policy. Without congressional action, they warn, Arizona and other states will create a patchwork of laws that don't resolve the core problem: how to strengthen the borders and deal with the 11 million people who are in the U.S. illegally.
"The president has said … that this is a wake-up call for the federal government to act," said White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs.
It was unclear Monday whether that argument will prove to be the catalyst in overcoming the thorny politics surrounding immigration. But the Arizona law is now part of the message that proponents of a federal overhaul are deploying to pass a bill with bipartisan support.

About an hour ago on MSNBC, it was mentioned that according to top politicians, nothing will be done on immigration anytime soon, notwithstanding the new law in Arizona. In the meantime, illegal aliens and their supporters will continue to march, and the supporters of the rule of law will continue to fight for our country. It’s going to get VERY ugly.

Let Obama move forward to settle this issue.It will be the last nail in his coffin before the mid term elections.He will not be able to hire speechwriters clever enough to save him on this one.

Needless to say: it is past due for mass deportations as well as cancelling birthright citizenship for future/minor age children unless at least one parent (preferably the mother) is here legally.

Talk is already under way here in Oklahoma to mimic the Arizona law. And there is a LOT of Political support amongst BOTH parties to do it.
Even the Governor would sign if presented such a sweeping bill..........
and he is a yellow dog dem..................People are getting tired with the pussyfooting around this issue......especially at the federal level

Obama needs to tell us his plan to deal with the lawbreakers who are here illegally . He is going to have allot more problems if he does not. Our immigration laws were made for many good reasons, Those reasons have not changed.
