It's the official language after all.

It's the language of the land, but it's not the official language on the Federal Level. Many people would like to see that happen.

It would be ideal if Hispanics and all immigrants learned English but I don't know we could force someone to.

Children learn it when they go to school.

I think it wise to learn the language of the country that you are moving to. Some countries require that you speak their language fluently inorder to move there. I think it should be that way here too.

The US doesn't have an official language. I think we should for national unity (and to save on translation and printing costs), but we don't.

Why are you only concerned with Hispanics learning English? What about all of the other immigrants that are here and speak little to no English?

No, there should never be a law forcing anyone to learn any language. By the same token, as English is the common language of the US, we should not allow others to force us to teach their children the language of their choice.

Yeah, this thread almost assumes that in general, Hispanics who reside in the US don't speak English.

That's the way it's worded, but I'm sure you understand what the OP means.
