SANTA CRUZ - A large group of protesters demonstrating at a May Day rally for worker's and immigrant rights downtown broke off into a riot vandalizing about a dozen businesses around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, police said.

Many in the group were carrying makeshift torches as they marched, breaking storefront windows and writing "anarchist graffiti" on buildings, according to Capt. Steve Clark. Many businesses sustained multiple broken windows including very large storefront windows at Urban Outfitters and The Rittenhouse building. Police believe at least 15 businesses suffered damage.

I know these streets pretty well. I've walked them late at night. They are pretty safe. I was told by people in the rally that those doing the destruction were not with them. They just showed up to try to make everyone else look bad.

This guy was arrested and I'm hoping others will testify as to who the rest of the vandalizers were.

Haynes is on parole out of Fresno County for burglary. He has been in Santa Cruz for the past several weeks where he has established an arrest history, Clark said. Haynes admitted to participating in the rally after receiving a flyer at a local anarchist café. Haynes was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail.

"The damage that was caused was without purpose," Clark said

One person, 24-year-old Jimi Haynes, a transient from Fresno County, was arrested for felony vandalism for damaging a window. Haynes is also wanted on a parole violation, Clark said. Police are searching for others responsible for the damage. Protesters cleared the downtown area around midnight.
"Our entire team of investigators are processing the scene of violence for evidence," Clark said. "We will be looking at video available to try to ID who's responsible."

Typical, the anarchists always create this kind of bad press. The anti-illegals rush to blame it on illegals or Latinos, then shut up when they see they are anglo teens who are half-ass anarchists.

They need to stop, because there are lots of children with the pro-reform demonstrators who are always peaceful. In Phoenix, a lot of little kids got maced because the anarchists were messing with the cops.

In the USA, the anarchists and socialists owned May Day first. Whose fault is it that the illegals and pro-open borders type pinned their own day onto the others?

Anarchists and socialists have marched and protested for decades here in the USA, long before most of those illegals showed up.

I realize that May 1 is the national Labor Day holiday for many other countries, and that's why the illegals celebrate it here, but here May 1 is associated with anarchists and socialists. Always has been.

Wow! And the president never warned us about this either... oh yeah, 0bama told us the threat posed to our civil society was from the extremist, torches and pitchfork carrying, TEA Party folks. You know, the guys who have demonstrated peacefully and then picked up their trash when they left.

so, who were the angry crowds carrying torches?

SANTA CRUZ -"Many in the group were carrying makeshift torches as they marched, breaking storefront windows and writing "anarchist graffiti" on buildings..."

Well, to be fair, look at what is going on just across our southern border, looks like Latinos engaging in anarchy and chaos in Mexico to me. Disregarding our immigration laws, smuggling in drugs, and filling one third our federal prison population with illegal aliens, this too sounds like chaos and anarchy.

It was groups like La Raza that chose May 1st.

Good point. The problem in Mexico is not Mexico's Constitution or laws. If you read it's laws, the laws are fine, it's constitution does protect the citizens of Mexico. The problem is lack of enforcement.

What's the point of having laws if they are never to be enforced?

Why do we make the legal immigrants file papers, go through background checks, wait for months, find a sponsor and so on if we're just going to move those who chose to break the laws to the front of the line and be given jobs ahead of the legal immigrants?

Why even put the legal immigrants through the farce we put them through?

Number one-LITTLE KIDS have no concept of what they are protesting for or against and are obscenely used, disgraceful for ANY to use kids in any political arena, even here. Secondly, I really would like to see a link of kiddies being maced, I can't find it on the web. Were the police arrested? Was it a wind blow of fumes? Were they targeted and sprayed like you would want others to believe? Was it just more of "tell this to the camera honey", grandstanding? You know, the "age of videos" is everywhere. A new low from pro-illegal aliens.

Well, we were forewarned during the initial protest in Arizona by the “alleged” illegal who said, “We will fight you.” I will be very surprised if illegals and their supporters do not become increasingly violent as they watch their dreams dissipate. I also read on another forum that a group of anti-illegals were attacked by pro-illegals. I’m not sure if the assailants were illegals, or their supporters, or both.
