The Los Angeles City Council, protesting Arizona's tough crackdown on illegal immigration, voted Wednesday to ban most city travel to Arizona and future contracts with companies in that state.
The resolution, which now heads to Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, would still allow city officials to travel to Arizona under "special circumstances" that are in the city's interests. Also, existing contracts with Arizona firms would be exempt from the ban if canceling them would lead to "significant additional cost" to the city.
- Yes. Arizona needs to feel the consequences of enacting a bad law. 2.1% (377 votes)
- Yes, though the boycott should be more of a symbolic gesture than an official measure. 0.3% (62 votes)
- No, but only because doing so is probably illegal and not in L.A.'s interest. 4.2% (761 votes)
- No. The city should mind its own business. 93.4% (16,877 votes)
Total Votes: 18,077

It would seem that the politicos of Los Angeles have enough on their plate, they should be working on their own city and stop trying to bother everyone else.
I can think of one contract the city won't be able cancel, let alone modify because of the boycott: service by Arizona-based airlines US Airways and Mesa Air at LAX. Federal regulations prohibit public airports from unjustly discriminating against different carriers; telling US Airways it can no longer serve LAX because of an ideological disagreement between Los Angeles and Arizona probably wouldn't fly with the feds. Then there's the issue of whether the boycott is even constitutional at all.
Reading between the lines here: methinks that the City of Los Angeles may be trying to look for a way out now since the LA Times all but castigated that vote in favor of said boycott.
You should see what the illegals have done to the predominantly hispanic areas in California... nobody wants to live there except poor hispanics... its no wonder, most people don't want more illegal immigration except idiots.. unfortunately, we have idiots who run cities and government departments... that should be scary... when elected leaders don't enforce the law but enforce ideology instead... no wonder America is in the crapper...
So much for "californio sur" and his constant claims that Californians are largely against AZ and the new law. He's full of it, just like LA City Council is full of it. How freakin' delusional and off target can one get? These elected officials better figure out FAST how to clean up the mess they vomited when they decided to stage this hispandering boycott.
Read the comments. L.A. residents/taxpayers are incensed by the fact that the City Council is unable or unwilling to clean their own house, yet they have the time and inclination to involve themselves in another state's business.
Villar will pass it though. What does he care? Once he leaves L.A., his political career is over, done, cooked!

I would like to see Tony the Toilet Cleaner (with all due respect to those folks who really clean restrooms) see some prison time for ______.
