There's a saying that goes "if you're bored then you're boring..."; if you cannot find something to do, you may not be looking hard enough or creating your own entertainment. Besides, liberal doesn't necessarily equate to exciting.

If everyone who moved into a new and different region in America viewed it as a new page in their life, and an opportunity for education and discovery, there might not be so many unhappy "new" residents complaining they can't find a vibrant nightlife in rural America. There are few "Broadways or Clark Streets found in 1000 acre soybean fields.
