Hello, I am currently looking into apartments/houses to buy in Chicago. I found one near Sacramento Blvd and Franklin Blvd. Since I'm not familiar with Chicago, I wanted to ask your opinion about the area (I believe it's East Garfield Park). Thanks!

Default Not a whole lot to like about that location...

Crime aside (and that area has a fair share of everything, without being a true "war zone"...) this spot is probably more like East St. Louis than any area that is really attractive to those relocating.

This is the closest "shopping area" -- 800 North Kedzie Avenue Chicago, IL - Google Maps

Not exactly what most young people are looking for in Chicago, but a decent enough place for working families, though honestly not sure how solid the employment base is long term...

Unless you are moving in with a family member, it is extremely unusual for a Saint Louis transplant to move to Garfield Park - Or even have it on your radar for that matter. Why the interest in that neighorhood? It's random and odd.

Well it's cheap and it has good public transit access. But of course it's cheap for a reason.

"Decent enough place for working families"?? Good Lord. EGP is one of the most high-crime, gang- and drug-ridden neighborhoods in the city.
