The best steaks in Springfield are at The Old Lux, off 11th street, maybe 13th street? They pile chive-cheese sauce on their baked potatoes, and their salads are unbelievable....and boy, can they cook a steak. I hope it hasn't shut down like The Fairview.

The Old Lux is at 15th & South Sts., or one block south of Laurel on 15th St.

A newer option would be Augie's Front Burner (5th & Adams, downtown). A little pricey, but excellent food.

Didn't know the Fairview closed down...north-side staple in Springfield.

When you say the Fairveiw closed down you wouldn't be referring to Fairveiw Farms would you? How about Avanti's?

No, the Fairview restaurant is/was on the north side of Springfield, just off of Sangamon Ave. east of the fairgrounds. I recall going to fish fries there as a kid.

In Peoria Avanti's is our favorite place for Italian. They have pasta, gondolas, and pizza. It's really cheap too, but SOOO good.

Alexander's is a wonderful steakhouse, but a little pricey.

Avanti's is good, and it's great considering the price, but for REALLY good Italian food try Rizzi's, particularly the downtown location.

Some folks swear by Johnny's (sic?) Italian Steakhouse at Grand Prairie or Basta Mangiari, but for me it's Rizzi's.

Two other excellent, although somewhat pricey, places in close proximity to each other or 2 Chez and Copperworks, both in the same strip mall on Pioneer Parkway.

If you're looking for something truly Peorian, then Avanti's is a good choice......you might also consider One World Cafe on Main Street (across from the Main Street Avanti's) - or the River Station downtown (they just recently re-opened I believe due to a fire they suffered). If you'd like to check out their menus, you can do that at - check out the ExplorePeoria.com Peoria Restaurants (http://www.explorepeoria.com/pages/RestaurantMenus - broken link) Area.
