Hi

I live in Nashivllle Tenneese, last week I got speeding ticket at Johnson county vienna city illionis for 42 miles over speed. cop clicked the speed at 107 in 65 zone I24 . Also gave me another ticket for staying in left lane for long time. Acutally I didnt know whether the speed is that hign , its a big suv . May be I went over 100 for 1 or 2 miles but my bad luck I got clicked on that time. I paid $200 cash on the spot to cop and he gave me court appearance.

This is my first offense. I have a clear driving history till now. I am worried about the consequences of this ticket. Please advice if any come across these kind of ticket

Thanks

You are lucky you weren't arrested and also given a ticket for reckless driving, etc.

YOU are VERY lucky you did not end up in the Massac county jail...I know the Sheriff of that county very well and most of his deputys....I don't know how it played out, maybe they were to busy to transport you(Johnson county utilizes another jail facility as they do not have their own) or what, but I'm telling you,you caught a BIG break....those guys are fair, but they do not tolerate stupidity or ignorance very well.

Yes,you should be worried about the consequences.

In IL if you're caught speeding 30 miles an hour over the limit, you can be fined $1500 dollars and spend six months behind bars. If you're going 40 over, you could pay $2500 dollars and spend a year in prison with no chance of court supervision.

The fact you have a clear driving record will help and in Johnson county it will help if you are employed...the Judge there doesn't like to cause employed people to lose their jobs.

good luck

I drove Buke Enclave 2011 rental car . Actually , few months back during tea time with my friends, we just discussed that Duke latest SUV's will alert in the speedometer if we cross 90 miles. Last saturday while I was driving this car , just remembered this discussion and out of curiosity to check this I raised the speed just for 2 to 3 miles. Road was very clean and dry and very little traffic offcourse no traffic during this time. My personal car has a digital speedometer so in this car I didnt realized that It crossed 100 but with in 2 to 3 miles I reduced the speed. Also this is my first offense .

Any help for how to deal with this ticket would be appreciated.

Yes...that is a good high speed stretch where you were pinched...I really can't say what will help....you can call here and maybe they will discuss it with you and that will give you a better idea of your options.

This is the Johnson county State's Attorney's office number.

I can not defend someone driving 107 mph. However, Illinois has speed traps. As I recently drove thru the state on a clear Sunday morning in very light traffic returning from my uncle's funeral, I approached a stretch on I 57 that had cones. I slowed from 65 mph to 60. A Pulaski County deputy sherrif was parked by the first cone. He pulled me over although, I was driving slower than the other vehicles. He stated I was driving 68 mph in a 55 mph 'construction zone.' There was not a single construction worker nor equipment outside of a few cones that he could have put there himself. He gave me a ticket that mandated by a Illinois law that the county is milking like a fat cow that I return for a trial since it was a 'construction zone.' I checked on a lawyer to contest and found out you have to be licensed in that state to represent a client there. The attourneys up there are getting fat on this too at the tune of $300 a customer to represent out-of-state travelers who can not take off from work or afford to return. I had to use my mortage payment money for this bogus ticket. My goal now is to worn everyone traveling I 57 in Pulaski, the seat of Cairo, to slow beneath the limit to avoid this. They also have electronic cameras too.

Any individual who elects to drive on Illinois roads and does not observe the posted speed limit is subject to fines, arrest and/or imprisonment. Ignorance of the law is not an acceptable excuse.

Speed limit signs, cones, barrels, baracades or flashing lights are placed at every road contruction project in Illinois to slow drivers! It is FAIR WARNING to all who enter: road surface or driving conditions or speed limits are subject to change without warning for the entire length of the project.

Cones are placed for reasons known only to the state. The cone is a warning. It is expensive to ignore it. .

Sounds like you did the right thing since you were able to drive away.

If he reduced his speed to 60, why did the radar gun register it at 68? If it was a construction ZONE, where were the posted speed limit and what was it?
