Interesting read. We'll either have one law for Chicago, and one for the rest of the state, or there will be one law for all. I hope for the latter.

Be careful what you wish for. Part of the problem is that Chicago often determines the law for the rest of the state. The issue would be less contentious if Chicago (or the Chicago area anyway) weren't able to impose its gun laws on the rest of the state. Sometimes one size doesn't fit all, especially when you have a very stark divide between urban and rural interests. If we are going to have one law for all, let's hope it will be a law that favors the side of freedom versus restrictions. But that's almost certainly not how it's going to be.

I agree, but in the wake of Newtown I don't think new laws are very likely and will come quickly.

Unless the federal government puts some kind of restrictions in place before the 180 days are up then the state has no say in the matter. They either put laws in place or we become a state with no carry laws which is something they do not want..

Newtown was a sad event there is no question but this was the work of one mentally unstable person that would have found a gun somewhere or done the same harm in a different manner. Maybe blowing up the school etc.. Can't blame an object for the actions of people. If he would of run them all down with a truck we wouldn't be trying to ban SUV's

Drinking and driving is illegal, so why do bars have parking lots?

You clearly don't spend enough time on "Chicago" parts of the forum -- the message there is "only way to get your drunk on is a bar that you can take the CTA home from". I do my best to remind folks that there are plenty of bars outside 606xx that one can stumble home from...

Maybe when more Chicago Democrats get around to outlawing bars with parking lots they'll figure out a way to grandfather Wrigley Field

Eh, I'm mixed on this. I don't feel like everyone in the state should be carrying guns at all times but I am not a fan of Chicago's "legislate everyone problem away and its magically fixed" approach to well....everything.

I'm sure you'll be relieved to learn that the ruling does not mandate that everyone in the state carry at all times.

Like I said, guns or no...its not really an issue to me. It is not something I have an adamant stance on, I sort of just feel like Chicago runs the show in all things legislation and this is just one of many examples.
