I am originally from Cook County and am so glad I got out of there because I was tired of paying higher and higher taxes to support the freeloading politicians and government employees who often got their jobs through nepotism.
I used to live in Monee. For the vast majority of the time I've been posting on this forum, I lived in Monee. If you don't mind my asking - do you live in Monee, Peotone, Crete or Beecher? Incorporated or unincorporated?

I'm glad to be back in (southern) Cook County, BTW. I too am originally from here.

But anyway, your post is kinda silly. Kankakee County has had its share of corruption and let's not trivialize that. I get your point about the taxes but the details in your post are nonsensical. The "K Thrilla" has no shortage of gangbangers, white crackheads and people living on welfare.. Make sure your **** don't stink before you talk ****.

The city of Kankakee is a lot like Chicago Heights but with more white people. I mean that in both a positive and a negative way. Driving down Court Street is a lot like a drive down Chicago Road. This is to say nothing of the closed down factories.. There's decaying urban beauty in both of these cities.. I feel like if these were neighborhoods in Chicago, they'd be ripe for artists to start moving in..

I'm sure the 6.25% sales tax rate in all of Kankakee County is an incentive. Much to a certain poster's dismay, it's lower than in a certain bordering state. It's certainly much lower than the layers of taxes on top of taxes on top of taxes on top of taxes on top of even more taxes Cook County taxing bodies impose ad nauseam.

Urza is dead on. Let's not pretend Kankakee's you know what doesn't stink. Kankakee proper has major problems that the powers that be here are oblivious as to how to even begin fixing. The political machine that used to run this county may be pretty much dead, but there's still a good ole boys network that can be hard to crack. This is still a town all about who you know, not what you know.

I grew up in Kankakee County. The best way I can describe the people out here (including myself?). We're country. We do country things in our free time. Hunting, swimming in the river, BBQ. I love that stuff.

The thing I love about my county is that it does offer a 'country' atmosphere that's quite close to Chicago. People are (for the most part), very nice and kind out here.

However, the town does have a bit of a conservative lean to it. People are becoming more open though.
